Rancid are a brilliant punk rock band; in my eyes, they are the true meaning of punk, as you can see by their image and their punky songs, which most on this CD are really short and cool, like about 1-2 minuites long generally. This is such a good CD, featuring many songs due to their length and the rough but amazing voice of Tim Armstrong, lead singer and guitarist, shines through to make this another supurb album for the band. These once fumbling schoolboys have suddenly grown up, trading in their signature raw ignorance for cleaner more mature punk metal. In Rancid's latest endeavour they skid greasily between experimental noises and glossy washing machine white choruses, instead of the usual spitting of filthy, political hatred. As usual Matt Freeman's apt basslines can be referred to as nothing but pure fantastic genius, especially on tracks like 'Not To Regret' and 'Meteor Of War'. This album has been heralded as a return the Rancid's roots but in actual fact it is far from this. Rancid's roots lie firmly with Ska in the form of Operation Ivy a very long time ago. This album is anything but ska. The style ranges from straight hardcore to psychobilly but it all blends together well to form an excellent album. The first couple of tracks are finished within a couple of minutes. Straight up shouty oiks about making enemies and being angry. The way punk should be ;-).
