The Seeds Of Love - Tears For Fears

Rating:
Okay, now I like Tears for Fears . I know they had really dodgey hairstyles, but it was the 80's and they never got as tonsorially nasty as A Flock Of Seagulls, so I forgive them. "Sowing The Seeds" was very Beatles, let's be honest, and I'm sure Paul McCartney would have been proud had he produced the song, but for me the key isn't in the actual music writing on this album, it's the singing. I found it to be quite disconcerting. The sheer strength and emotional range in the vocals are stunning, especially on the 'Track Of The Album' "Bad Man's Song". This has a fantastic bluesy feeling and the ease with which ...

electric instruments and strings. The vocals are hard to follow apart from the chanted chorus, shouted, as only this band can do perfectly, it is just as much a Tears for Fears theme as the previous track. The madness of the arrangements on this track will leave you either stunned at its experimental cleverness or a blinding headache. Only to be appreciated by die hard electric eighties fans and best left alone by everyone else. Still a good hit for the band, ‘Mother’s Talk,’ as it is titled, was released in August 1984 and reached number 14. Putting undetectable lyrics aside, we must not shrug off these subjects as just coincidental. They are, after all, the very ...

to on headphones when you're chilling. Now, I'm going to just mention the next title and that's all because it became very, very famous at the time for advertising a charity event and it got really, really, really overplayed (albeit in a good cause)... it's "Everybody Wants To Rule The World". Remember? Yep. I'm getting twitchy now. "Mother's Talk" and the feet are starting to tap. More on the spot dancing. Excellent track. Great for singing into hairbrushes in front of the mirror. A really beautiful song given the excellent vocal treatment from Roland against a simple background of piano and subtle drumming, is ...

Visor Om Slutet - Finntroll
Successful experiment away from metal.
May deter metal fans.
Razorbliss - Flowing Tears
More dynamic musical performance.
Too slow.
The Umbersun - Elend
Effective symphonic balance between light and darkness.
Yelled vocals sound out of place, and music is dull in places.
Godflesh - Godflesh
Pioneered industrial metal.
Forgettable songs.
Serpentine - Flowing Tears
Good female vocals.
Dull instrumentation.
Drakkars In The Mist - Folkearth
Interesting and strong Viking metal performance from a range of talented musicians.
Overcomplicates things.
Fallen - For My Pain
Skilled musicians (apparently).
Tedious and uninspired.
A World In Their Screams - Elend
Excellent grasp of symphonic composition.
Electronic elements sound awry.
Always - The Gathering
Interesting use of obscure instruments, effective gothic atmosphere.
Seems amateurish by comparison to later works in the genre.
Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam - Gorgoroth
Competent performance.
Lacking in ideas.
