The album begins with a clichéd forsaking of God and invocation of Satan that's so short as to be on the verge of skip-worthy, the first of many wastes of time here, but the rest of the album avoids falling into the tedious territory of mere Satan worship for shock's sake, offering a mix of emotive and often dow...more

Crowned Review Rape Of The Bastard Nazerene - Akercocke: Many Realities Unfold Betwixt a Rich Fruit of Locusts (1476 words)

This debut release from the eternally besuited, well-groomed and well-mannered London gents who are nevertheless clearly going to Hell (if they really do believe all this stuff), fails to shake off the sense of being a slightly overlong demo tape. By slightly I mean it comes in at a still meagre thirty-five minutes rather than twenty-five, and by demo I mean unpolished, raw-sounding compositions connected by worthless interludes in a deceptive attempt to bulk out the track-list to something approaching ten. Good incorporation of classic metal style, with great guitars and improved vocals. Too content to be nothing new.

Fun and skilfully executed modern ska tunes. Indecipherable lyrics (for non-Poles) and less imaginative reggae sections.

Superb guitars, and good enough reproduction of the brutal death style. Lacks originality in pretending to be American.

Great vocals, lyrics and music None

Every song is good. There are very nice melodies. Gets boring after a few listens. Production isn't that great.

Big tunes all the way through. Concept doesn't get weak at any time. Nothing specific

Antichrist - Gorgoroth
Great incorporation of subtle melody. Shorter still.

Incipit Satan - Gorgoroth
Something different. Infernus should stick to his day job.

Under The Sign Of Hell - Gorgoroth
Hellish and still experimental. Focus on overt aggression begins in earnest.

Collateral Defect - Graveworm
Range of styles for the modern mainstream metal fan. None are executed particularly well.

Legacy Of Kings - HammerFall
More of the same, if you enjoyed it. More of the same, if you didn't.

Morphosis - Hate
Interesting mix of melody and heaviness without going down the usual route. Feels stifled.

Fury & Flames - Hate Eternal
Break neck head slamming speed Repetitiveness, too intense at times, needs more variety

I Monarch: Limited Edition - Hate Eternal
Impressive performances. Repetitive and tedious.

Apocalyptic Raids - Hellhammer
Good atmosphere, interesting to hear where it all started. Songs are dull and overly repetitive.

Opus Magnum - Hollenthon
Consistent and excellent use of symphony with heavy metal. Less ambitious than earlier albums.
