Advantages: Some big tracks

Disadvantages: A couple of weaker tunes

"Ready" was released in 2009 and came as the third album from the Virginia-based R&B singer Trey Songz. It follows a great deal of hype that has come since 2007 when he really able to breakthrough as he worked with StarGate on "I Can't Help But Wait" and he came to cover lots of contemporary hits to show how well his voice could be used on other people's material as well as what he writes himself.

1. "Panty Droppa" (Intro)

2. "Neighbors Know My Name"

Following a sensual introductory track, you know exactly where he wants to take things here as you see that here he comes in hard with a track that you here great deals of R. Kelly from in the way that he constructs the track as he goes in with some intense bedroom material as he signs of his experiences of dealing with the neighbours as he gets down to it with his girl. It is a great way to kick it all off and you see a greater range here than pretty much any tune from him up to this point.

3. "I Invented Sex"

Here you get a big one as Trey Songz links up with Canada's Drake (who raps this time around) and together they make for a banger of a joint that forces you right in through the lively nature of the production and how everything else appears to fall into place after it. You find hat he bigs up bedroom performance massively as he talks of how he does it so well that it will make the girl he's with think that he must have invented sex after he's put on a little Usher, and he gets down to it.

4. "I Need A Girl"

Coming as the first single from the album, I personally felt that it was rather overrated when you compare it to a lot of other tunes that he had come out with over the years as you see that this one has him returning to looking towards the Norwegian production duo StarGate, who made "I Can't Help But Wait" make for such a hit for him, but here I felt we got nothing but an average song from him.

5. "One Love"

With some Rock influence coming through in the production, you get a track from the artist that has him performing a rather classy one that appears to escape the conventions of 2009's R&B scene somewhat (as he sees to be pushing these base values frequently) and in this case you find that it doesn't really lead to anything that is particularly impressive and so although you make take something away with you, the style of it isn't really of the nature to drag you in (not that his vocal performance isn't incredible).

6. "Does He Do It"

Here Sean Garrett and Eric Hudson come together on the beats and they come out with a killer composition that appears to lift the album massively off the last two in order to come out with a tune that I felt had a lot of Usher influence in the way that the vocals are arranged and you see that the freaky, bass-led production enables it to make it feel like it is perfectly on-trend for the time when it dropped.

7. "Say Aah"

Here you see that he gets Brooklyn's Fabolous to help him out here as you see that he gets even more of the Hip Hop influence coming through, which as usual, comes through in the style of the production and in this case Young Yonny and Troy Taylor come out with a fly set to assist him as he joins Fab' in the clubs and treats all the most impressive girls he comes across with Patron Tequila.

8. "LOLïS"

This is a massive tune from Trey Songz and one that is only made better with Soulja Boy and Gucci Mane's rhymes (not that I think much to Gucci's skills in that department) as you see that he gets the chance to come through with a track that appears to do it all in the way that he links up with a pair of Trap-Rap acts from A-Town to get some appeal from this crowd as he has with the more general R&B field.

9. "Ready To Make Luv" (Lude)

10. "Jupiter Love"

Coming off something heavy, you see that with this one it doesn't appear to continue in the same direction as he seems to get his Kells on again with this one by making Troy Taylor and John SK McGee slow down the pace massively so that he can come out with a low-paced, classy affair as he signs about what he wants to do to his girl to send her as high as Jupiter with the love that jhe's offering.

11. "Be Where You Are"

Christopher Henderson is behind the production for this one and you see that in this case you get a track that seems to make quite a lot of Pop influence in the overall thing in the way that it is based on a lively percussion loop that takes on a few of the contemporary trends, but twists them in a way so that they lose a lot of what had made for the best tracks in the album up to this point. It grows with time, but is still a pretty plain one.

12. "Successful"

This is perhaps one of the biggest tracks that he has dropped and one that both he and the collaborating artist, Drake, have included onto official releases. It is a cold track and has them on some deep, dark bass hits and soothing synth which take you in as they come together (with Drake rapping and Trey singing on the hook) about how they are aiming for success and it is what motivates them to do what they do.

13. "Black Roses"

This is a bit of a different one as you see that some exciting production is brought by Bei Maejor and you see that he comes out with something that takes on minimal things from what R&B is doing at this point and instead twists it to something much more futuristic to make for a track that I thought was quite effective as you see how well he breaks conventions in order to come out with the best results.

14. "Love Lost"

After further beat pounding, you find that here you get a fly jam that has him even sampling a little R. Kelly along the way with the subtle use of "I Wish", you see that here you get him making for another track that has him attempting o get away from the rest of the R&B world as he turns towards a contemporary ballad here and comes with a decent tune, but one that I felt wasn't quite where it needed to be.

16. "Holla If Ya Need Me"

Following a relevant interlude, you see that here he makes sure that from troy Taylor and Chris Hines production alone you are able to establish exactly what his intensions are here and he makes sure tat he works to a very high standard as he comes through with an emotive love song that brings in the Pop and more sensual elements that have been found during early stages of the album to boost it.

17. "Yo Side Of The Bed"

With some very different production, this time enabling to construct a ballad, you find that here he comes out with an epic display with some calming Rock influence to it. I can't say that I really feel much with ballads in the R&B world in the 2008-2009 period (as it sounds quite outdated) and so although he may have come in strong with his vocals, it didn't actually mean anything when it has so little relevance to the day, and so it doesn't make for the best track to end the album with.

I saw this as a decent album from Trey Songz and one that appears to build upon his career as he comes out with an album that has him making more of an attempt to break free of the expectations of a current R&B artist by looking back to the nineties and forward with Drake to come out with the goods.
