Advantages: Some Cool Alternative Tracks
Disadvantages: The Odd Bad Remix
There are many rap people out there who love Linkin park, they hate any other type of Rock and refuse to accept Linkin Park as rock. I can definitely agree that they are a very different style of rock and are really in their own category. This album is a complete remix album of their past tracks, and has a lot of Hiphop in it, but if you are expecting strictly Linkin Park, then don't be dissapointed.
There really is no rock here, but as a Linkin Park fan I am open to any type of music, and loved the route that Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington took this album. The majority of the remixes are from Hybrid theory, but there are tracks from their old stuff like 'My December'.
I have to go back to the point that I mentioned, that this is no Rock, it is like alternative hiphop with a cool bass sound. There are people out there that may just think this is a cheap ploy to waste more time till their following album, which actually did not come out that long after and also another method to make money, but there is still a difference between these remixes and the original tracks. For example the track Frgt/10, named forgotten on Hydbrid Theory is a track that I immensily enjoyed on Reanimination, however on the Hybrid Theory it was one of my least favourite tracks, so the guys must have been doing something right with this remix album.
However it is not all perfect, as the remix of the track 'In The End', I preffered the original and although this is a decent effort it just doesnt compare to the original track. There is definitely a market for a remix album like this and I feel a lot of other rock artists should try experimenting and seeing what cool sounds and tracks they can create. It really just works with Linkin Park though as they focus most of their tracks across cool beats and obviously the mesmerising rapping from Mike Shinoda. That is why Chester Bennington does not seem to appear in as many of the tracks here.
However the good thing is that Linkin Park didn't just sell out and get a load of high profile artists to feature on the album, and like LP themselves they went for more alternative rappers, like Alchemist, Motion Man and Zion. This album still provides good value for money with 20 tracks and like I mentioned before it doesnt just remix tracks from Hybrid Theory, but also older tracks, so consider this to be a bit of a remixed compilation album.
My December is one of my favourite LP songs, so to see if remixed was one of the personal highlights for me. It does from being a very slow creepy ballad, to getting a funky beat and now appealing to a more mass appeal, which I don't really mind as its still good and in a way sounds even better. It is a beautiful track in any form.
Of course this album is trying to attract new fans and I feel it does succeed at this, without losing too many of its old fans. After all they got back to their old style with Meteora and did a fantastic job there. For me Reanimation is a great effort and other artists could look at taking a leaf out of the LP book.
Summary: A great album
