Premium Review Angra - Fireworks (292 words)

Rating:

Fireworks by Angra is the Brazilian band s 3rd album and the last with the original band line-up. It was released in 1998. There are plenty of good riffs which are somewhere between the kind you would expect in Power Metal and others likely you d find in hard rock or even rock with an experimental guitarist (Queen for example), there are some truly wonderful solos and the vocals are clean, so those who don t like growling vocals need not be put off. I also like the way that the band leave plenty of space for each other to operate in, the guitars are cleverly played so that they sound loud but the vocals are still quite a lot louder and the vocalist in turn gives the ...

by Frankingsteins - written on 21/01/08 (Very useful, 24 readings)
Rating:

Fireworks is the final Angra release with the classic line-up featuring departing members André Matos (vocals and keyboard), bassist Luis Mariutti and drummer Ricardo Confessori, and the sense of internal conflict affecting the output is fairly clear. This is still an enjoyable and respectable album in the Angra line, but isn t up to the innovative standards of the first two. The direction here tends more towards typical heavy/power metal without many of the elaborate and creative tendencies that made Holy Land and even Angels Cry so memorable, lacking the neoclassical solos and Latin influence and serving up more straightforward songs. For some this may provide ...

influence wouldn t really come into play until their definitive sophomore offering Holy Land, this album is just as progressive and brilliantly indulgent as fans of more recent Angra releases will have come to expect. While the influence of early power metal from the likes of Helloween is clear, it s even more obvious just how many bands have based their sound on this style, particularly German Tobias Sammett who seems to have lifted many of these ideas for his Edguy and Avantasia projects. But as ever with this multi-faceted band, power metal fans may be deterred by the bombastic orchestration in some songs, extended instrumental sections in pretty much all songs, and ...

A unique, non-album song. No other material for a wider perspective.

Pleasant songs from each of Angra's albums thus far. 'Lisbon' isn't one of their better offerings.

Has everything; rock, guitars, romance and much much energy This band disappeared for 15 years :(

Fantastic original songs and covers Ridelly diddely - does make you giggle at first

Classic early Anthrax. All available elsewhere, or too forgettable to be concerned with.
