Advantages: Some classic tracks here, quite a lot of info in the booklet
Disadvantages: None
Reflections is a combination album of the work of the British 60s rock band Les Fleur de Lys. With an often changed line-up, it's wonder these guys ever got anything done let alone actually produce some cracking songs.
Putting together catchy rock/pop numbers with a hint of psychedelia thrown in but staying true to their beat roots with sensibly lengthed tracks, more common of their trans-atlantic garage contemporaries rather than aiming for any self indulgent cack, likewise they don't come up with any of the rubbish sounding tracks The Beatles pulled out in a similar era on albums like Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club and Magical Mystery Tour.
It's not an album that is easy to say "that Phil Sawyer" is a cracking guitarist as with half of the work on this album being him and half being Bryan Haworth, vocalist Frank Smith also picks up the thing just to confuse you a bit more, it's hard to say who is who unless you study the back of the CD.
The singles that the band released were definitely their better tracks, "Circles" with Pete Townsend on vocals and Jimmy Page producing is definitely one of the band's best numbers, though it's the awesome "Hold On" with the vocally charismatic Sharon Tandy and awesome guitar riffs which does it for me, likewise "Mud in Your Eye" is highly enjoyable too.
With six line-ups ranging from a bit of early hard rock which would undoubtedly influence Led Zeppelin to boyish vocals which have that "we're all good chaps from the early/mid 60s" sound, this album holds some true classics and is definitely worth a listen.
