Natty Dread - Bob Marley & The Wailers: ... rounded and grounded is sound. Pride of place is often given to records such as Burnin' and Catch a Fire, involving Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, but this should not be to the detriment of recordings such as 1975's Natty dread. Whilst this album features a reduced membership of that classic line up, the backing vocals of the I-Threes, solid bass of Aston "Family Man" Barrett and assured influence of Chris...

GKDurkin The Harder They Come - Jimmy Cliff
... away from the power of the music on this album. Jimmy Cliff is to the fore, as he is in the film as Ivanhoe "Ivan" Martin. His vocals on the excellent title track; the haunting Sitting in Limbo and the punchy You Can Get It If You Really Want are classic slices of Island label production. Familiar cuts from the mighty Desmond Dekker (007 Shanty Town) and the Melodians (Rivers of Babylon) always sound fresh and these are more than matched by Scotty's Draw Your Brakes or The Maytals' Sweet and Dandy. Universal have recently given this album the two-disc Deluxe treatment but the single disc at the mid-price point is a fine primer of early seventies reggae ...

... Cane 8. Palmdale 9. Mississippi 10. The American Dream This album is not for the faint-hearted. There is regular swearing and it talks a hell of a lot about sex and drugs, and not in a subtle way. Lyrically, there is anger and passion, particularly with regard to Palmdale and the drugs lifestyle he raps about. There is some wonderful harmony mixed in with the vaguely sexist, drug-fuelled rapping. 'Hush' has some wonderful vocals that you can really let go with when singing along! The track entitled 'Palmdale' features Afroman rapping for nearly 7 minutes about his home county, and there are true feelings in all bhis music on this album. I rate this at 3 stars. The...

... random and it works well). **Four Stars** 5. Tumbleweed Album From: "Because I Got High" Year: 2000 Length: 5:21 Here, he uses another slang word for his favourite substance, cannabis, and write a whole song about how he loves it. Although I cannot relate, this one does get you into a strange mood when you are excited, but relaxed at the same time. I felt that this one requires a little time to get into, but when you get there, it sounds amazing. Afroman shows a little more of his influences in rhyming by coming at a couple of lines with what sounds to be some Jamaican-styled speech patterns on top of a beat which is pure West Coast, big rhythm, and ...
