      Very helpful

      Scatty but enjoyable

Cop Shoot Cop's last album "Release" was released in 1994 just before the band disbanded, it sees the inclusion of guitar - a first for the band which had previously relied on a more jazzy sound, the lyrics and melodies are dark and scatty with different sounds flying off in all different directions. Known of as industrial rock, it is more like jazzy noise rock to me. Not that it matters, anyway.

This album is good, certain tracks are particularly drum heavy in the style of their previous albums but the use of harmonica at times shows the direction that singer Todd A. is heading with his future band Firewater. The lyrics are well sung in a gruff version of Leonard Cohen, sounding like a well-educated drunk.

It is the samples thrown in here and there which undoubtedly make it sound quite unique but also perhaps offputting to a lot of listeners and ensure that Cop Shoot Cop have a small but loyal fanbase! Other than the intense drumming (particularly on the track Ambulance Song which seems relentless!) another noticeable thing will be the fuzzy bass sound that haunts the album from start to finish and the increased amount of piano which is superbly played by Jim Coleman.

Well worth a listen, hunt them out on youtube before buying the album though as due to their lack of commercial success, even a 2nd hand album can be quite pricey.
