Advantages: Great Tracks, Voice, Guitar

Disadvantages: None

Eric Clapton is considered by many around the world to be the best guitarist of them all. Something that I agree with, just ahead of David Gilmour and Slash. in 2001 he released this album entitled Reptile. Here is my review.

Track 1 - The title track Reptile starts off the album with a nice gentle jam with a soft drum sequence from Steve Gadd and gentle keyboard tones. A very nice instrumental to get us started.

Track 2 - Got you on my mind is a faster paced track with Electric guitar soaring with Eric sounding better than he had up to 2001 when this album was released. It has a great flow to it and the backing vocals are very good.

Track 3 - Travellin Light is another fast song and for me it is better than the previous track Got you on my mind. It has a very catchy feel to it and was written by JJ Cale who Eric Clapton recently released an album with.

Track 4 - This is slower than the previous two tracks and in between Reptile and the two. Eric sings softly with a gentle drum and guitar piece. A nice gentle song that will be some peoples favourite song on the album.

Track 5 - Come Back Baby has a superb blues soul feel and is one of my favourite Eric Clapton tracks of the 21st Century. There is some great soaring guitar work here and his voice shows great power and emotion.

Track 6 - Broken down is about when everything seems to go wrong without someone. This song has a very nice feel to it and is one of the best on the album. certainly one of the most catchy he has done recently.

Track 7 - Find Myself isnt really a track that I am that keen on, it starts of with a nice piano and guitar accompained by drums. It doesnt have that feel of other slower songs on the album, Still good though.

Track 8 - I ain't gonna stand for it gets the album back on track with a brilliantly catchy track with some great guitar and piano work. Eric's voice sounds different here to other tracks on the album.

Track 9 - I want A little girl Is a fantastic slow ballad with brushes on the drum and a great piano melody with superb backing vocals from The Impressions. Eric's voice is great in this track, powerful and emotive.

Track 10 - Second Nature starts as a soft track with drum and guitar and then the chorus kicks in with a powerful change that takes place and the songs tempo changes.

Track 11 - Don't let me be lonely Is my favourite track on the album and it starts off with guitar and drums and then Eric's voice kicks in with a sweet falsetto and some of the guitar work on this track is sublime.

Track 12 - Modern Girl is a soft track that opens with a hopping beat and soft guitar. The guitar is gentle throught and Eric's voice sounds very good. It's not up there with the best but is still a very nice track.

Track 13 - Superman Inside is a fast paced track with a great catchy chorus. A flowing track that has a superb melody and is the biggest toe tapper on the album. A superb track indeed.

Track 14 - Son and Sylvia ends the album, this is an instrumental track about his Uncle Adrian and his wife Sylvia. A gentle but beautiful track that is one of the best instrumentals I have heard.

There are some great tracks here but the standout ones have to be Don't let me be loney tonight, I want a little girl, Son and Sylvia and Come back baby. Overall this is a stunning album.

Look back to his songs from the 70's and you will see just how much his voice has improved since then. He is now a great singer whereas he was a good singer back then. A superb album.

Summary: A very fine album

Welcome to Dooyoo, hope you enjoy the site. Personal thing for me but I do not enjoy track by track reviews of albums (others on the site would not agree so what do I know) instead I prefer to read something about the various styles and influences and then maybe a description of some of the better tracks and any stinkers. Like I said it is a personal view. Cheers.
