Advantages: Whitesnake Re-Invented

Disadvantages: Some Might Not Like This Mellower Side

After Whitesnake's implosion not long after their world beating 1987 success it took nearly a decade before Coverdale would resurrect the band (in terms of studio work), and in 1997 he did so in style. Albeit in an unusually understated way, 'Snake returned to the fold with the mightily Restless Heart album, a voyage of blues rock discovery.

Just like a fine wine, David's vocals had matured with age and complete with the occasional screaming guitar solo and epic atmosphere, the album marked an excellent comeback although critics at the time were divided in opinion.

Although this and the Starkers In Tokyo live album are often overlooked, I find them far more appealing than the very first few 'Snake records, and both stand firmly within my classic rock collection. On a side note for anyone who is unsure - the opening Don't Fade Away is absolutely stunning, and is one of my favourite Whitesnake tracks - I would love to hear it done live!
