Better than the band's previous outing

When it comes to hardcore Chimaira are one of the more experimental bands, their early releases were quite fruitful at a time when they stood out from the pack of various nu-metal bands, a release or two down the line though and they became over-produced and lacking in the innovative ideas that they had made their name from.

Resurrection is a very apt name for the album for it is exactly that - a ressurection of the band's career. The brutality and urgency shown in this album is a breath of fresh air and there's little to seperate the quality of the tracks, that's to say there are no fillers and it's all of a rather high standard. The inclusion of keyboards is an undoubted bonus and actually the main thing that freshens up the sound and brings the band back to their glory days.

People will have different favourite songs naturally and mine are Resurrection (for its sheer energy and aggression), Killing the Beast (one of the slowest songs on the album, lyrically strong and a rather moving track) and the track that could be considered as a let down is Six. I'm not sure that I have any favourite tracks which last for almost 9 minutes, it's just too long and technical and seems to be continuing for the sake of sneaking in one more technicality.

I'm giving it a 3/5 as I think there is substantially better music to be had, but if this genre is your thing then you might like this a lot.

      1. Resurrection
      2. Pleasure In Pain
      3. Worthless
      4. Six
      5. No Reason To Live
      6. Killing The Beast
      7. The Flame
      8. End It All
      9. Black Heart
      10. Needle
      11. Empire
