Advantages: Some awesome tunes

Disadvantages: Few below par tracks

Revival is the 2004 album of rockabilly/fun/punk act Reverend Horton Heat, it followed a tricky period for the slightly mad character and some of this is shown in his song writing. This album is still as fun as ever with witty memorable and an awesome portfolio of catchy, cheerful, upbeat tunes about his usual faves such as getting drunk and girls with a few additional topics thrown in like regret and pulling a sickie.

The blurred genres of rockabilly and punk, psychobilly and country rock result in lots of good bands, a fair portion of them opt for a horror theme whilst others are often from distant shores often with a non-English mother tongue. Like The Trailer Park Troubadours, RHH manage to break the mould and sing about traditional rock 'n' roll subjects but with an awesome wit that's rare in US music but truly remarkable when it exists.

Musically it's not a lot different from his previous work, the main reason being that the Reverend is good at what he does though that's not to say his work isn't varied throughout the album and from the exceptionally quick start (a Rev Horton trademark on later albums) of Happy Camper through to the jazzy cabaret "New York City Girls" my personal favourite track and onwards there's a collection of fun songs to listen and sing a long too. There's a few below par songs that don't make this album stick out as much as some of his earlier work from the 90s but it's still pretty good and definitely in my higher rankings of 2004 albums!

1 Happy Camper
2 Revival
3 Callin' in Twisted
4 If It Ain't Got Rhythm
5 New York City Girls
6 Indigo Friends
7 Someone in Heaven

12 I'm Your Pet Rock
