Tapestry Revisited: A Tribute To Carole King - Carole King

Premium Review Re-Woven Tapestry (707 words)

Little can be added to the praise that has always been heaped on Carole King s classic album "Tapestry". But a group of artists have found a better way than words to show their admiration and love for this practically perfect collection of songs. With a plethora of artists from Celine Dion to Manhattan Transfer to Rod Stewart, this Tribute will appeal to practically everyone. Granted, not all the artists will suit the taste of true lovers of the original clear clean voice that we know as Carole King, but there is a lot to recommend this album. Basically, this CD is a collection of artists singing the full collection of original tracks. Put in the same order ...

Perhaps the more discerning music fans among you think there are too many love songs here to make this album of any interest to you. Not so. Carole manages to fill her songs with an emotional intensity which is only equalled in modern times by singers like Beth Orton. 'Tapestry' is not just made up of commercial ballad after commercial ballad - Carole is certainly NOT a prototype Mariah Carey or Celine Dion. 'Way over yonder' is one of the most powerful and uplifting songs I have ever heard: it is the perfect atheists hymn. The raw beauty of Carole's voice accompanied only by a piano is breathtaking. By contrast, a lively tune like ...

This is one of those old albums that you always remember to be better than it actually turns out to be when you put it on again. 'It's Too Late' and 'You've Got A Friend' are fabulous ditties, but the most of the album just sort of sloshes over you. There's no escaping the fact that this is very safe, inconsequential ...

Turbulent Indigo - Joni Mitchell
tuneful melodies powerful lyrics in a consistent collection of songs not everyones cup of tea, some may find the album a bit samey

So Called Chaos - Alanis Morissette
easy to listen to full album without skipping tracks It's only 45mins long, you have to put it on repeat a lot

Reek Of Putrefaction - Carcass
The ultimate grindcore experience. Difficult to listen to.

My Passion Your Pain - Callenish Circle
Reminds you how good Dark Tranquillity used to be. Dark Tranquillity are still doing an adequate job of that without these guys' help.

Memphis May Fire - Memphis May Fire
Some decent Post-Hardcore music with elements of rock thrown in for good measure. Quite generic in sound, provides nothing particularly new to offer to the genre.

Graceful...yet Forbidding - Callenish Circle
Excellent guitar performance. Otherwise standard melodic death metal fare.

Far Away From Conformity - Cadaveria
Cadaveria can sing! Frank Booth has run out of ideas.

Death Proof - Soundtrack
Brilliant selection of otherwise relativly unknown music. Of which I find none.

Champion - The Audition
An amazing band with spine tingiling vocals not their best album

Blue Miasma - Krieg
Atmospheric. Slow and dull.
