Advantages: Eye and Ear Opening Wild Music

Disadvantages: Abit short

Aphex twin -real name Richard D. James is often hailed as a musical genius, praised for his brilliant approach to composition involving 'out of worldly' timbres, lush melodies and jarring hap-hazard furious drum rhythms. Often compared to the great 20th century composers such as Stockhausen and John Cage, Richard D. James soared to fame with his extensive use of DSP manipulation despite what many would consider 'radio unfriendly' music. Paired with film director Chris Cunningham, Aphex Twin became a household name with the tracks 'WindowLicker' and 'Come to Daddy'.

This Album 'Richard D. James' is a precursor to those single releases, and contains much of the same - Brutal fast rhythms (girl boy song) contrasted with sweet melodies (4). Although quite short this album is definitely worth adding to any music collection, as there isn't a bad track (although some may find 'Cornish acid' and 'Peek 8245...' abit grating).

Even if you're not into Electronica or IDM i would strongly suggest listening to this album at least once all the way through just to have your eyes (and ears) truly opened to how weird music can get! (a feat made evening greater considering this album was released in 1996).

Summary: One of the greatest works of music
