As I sit here at the computer while I listen to Christy Moore singing on CD I was inspired to write. I am listening to ride on, it's making me feel wistful a little sad but also cheerful, it is a mixture of emotions. Christy sings some beautiful songs Love songs, love for his woman, love of his country, about war and strife. Some bring a tear to the eye another a smile to the lips. Here I am sat here singing along Ooh listoonvarna, listdoonvarna everyone needs a break climb a mountain swim in the lake Sean Doherty goes down for the rose of Tralee But I like my music in the open air (so do I Christy) I saw heard Christy at Cambridge folk festival several years ago I can't remember when. Anyway I think Ride On is my favourite cd of his, or it might be Ordinary man. I think I would like to wander among the Wicklow hills. de on Christy sings about The city of Chicago and how in 1847 was the year it all began, Deadly pains of hunger drove a million from the land Their motive was not greed A voyage of survival Then he sings the beautiful ride on I feel the agony it rips at my heart as he sings Ride on, see, you. I could never go with you no matter how I wanted too? I turn my face to an empty space Where once you used to be And look for a smile to light the night Through a teardrop in my eye? Oh the agony of being parted from a loved one Christy it hurt's Then he goes on to sing a tribute to Frank Ryan, Kit Conway and Dinny Coady too, who fought and died with others beneath the Spanish sun He sings a song of wandering Angus Followed by Mc Ilhatton Mc Ilhatton you blurt we need you cry a million shaking men where are your sacks of barley may your likes be seen again heres a jig to the man a reel to the drop and a swing to the girl
he loves may your fiddle play and poitin cure your company up above ?A bottle of the stuff is only 30 buck's And then he sings of Lisdooonvarna stirs in me a longing to have been there drinking stout and listening to the music and the songs. A cheerful song uplifting Then he sings of wandering the Wicklow hills in The Autumn evening filled with copper shades As I listen I am there walking with him. Then Sonnys dream. sometimes he wonders what his life might have been Don't we all sometimes Then a song of a dying soldier. I don't belong here I don't want to die here. Oh no Then a song of El Salvador (dying again). Then he sings Back home in Derry A song of those who In 1803 left The sweet town of Derry For Australia bound Then he sings that The least we can do is make the world a better place Not just for a few But for all the human race Show some love and Compassion, when people are feeling low. I totally agree with that sentiment Christy. Sadly I believe I will not hear Christy Moore sing live gain, I read somewhere he suffers from a heart complaint and has been advised by DR's not to perform live again. Hopefully he is able to produce record's/cd?' has anyone else heard any thing? Thank you for reading, that was good timing my CD has just got to the end The least we can do is make the world a better place; with that thought I will leave you

- 04/09/02 The single red star seems a little odd, as you seem to like the album A LOT.
I've liked what I've heard of Moore. |
