Advantages: Great for the guitarist/bassist/drummer, Epic songs, never matched in grandness, Probably the best Metallica album to date

Disadvantages: Not many songs, Long songs, not for background music!, Quite heavy, takes a little getting used to

This is a definate buy for musicians who enjoy playing heavy/alt metal. The guitar solo in the spine tingling "Ride the lightning" is definatly Kirk Hammetts finest moment.

This is a great album for people who appreciate the fine art of heavy metal, but not just for guitarists! This can be enjoyed by even the most tone-deaf person, the lyrics and arrangments are enough to get through to anyone about the bands anti-death penalty views.

With the beautiful "Fade to Black", this is a very mixed album. It shows the emotion of an animal, with the heart of a saint. Anti-suicide is a big part of this bands cryteria, although this song has been misinterpreted in a very tragic way. People though it was pro-suicide, until the band spoke up about it.

"Trapped Under Ice", a title that speaks for itself, is a harrowing tale of desperation and fear. Screaming guitar solos, crunhing rhythm sections and lyrics that will take you to another place, a frightful place. This is a scary album! Not for the faint hearted or for those who have deep-seeded fears of claustraphobic origion.

The epic "Creeping Death" is probably a favourite for most Metallica fans. It tells of the slavery in Hebrew communities and how the Pharoa killed every first-borne male, in order to rid the world of Jesus presumably. It has a great energy unlike that of any other song on the album. The album itself has a great power as a whole.

Track listings:

1.Fight fire with fire
2.Ride the lightning
3.For whome the bell tolls
4.Fade to balck
5.Trapped under ice
6.Escape
7.Creeping Death
8.Call of Ktulu

The list is short, but the songs are quite long. They don't drag out, as you would think. Every minute is as important as the last, but not as important as the next.

Welcome to Dooyoo. Glad to say you've made a good start, although I don't like Smashing Pumpkins personally :) Ben
