Success Again! (Ride The Lightning - Metallica)
Member Name: prez_wilson
Advantages: great riffs, heavy and tuneful Disadvantages: dated
I'm more of a fan of newer bands, but this album has changed that. Metallica has introduced me to the old-school, which I find even better than my fomer tastes.I love this album. From the intense, machine-gunning riffs to the epic solos, every thing is good."Fight Fire with Fire" is a great opener, beginning with an acoustic interlude, then catapulting into a blazingly fast metal song. The lyrical meaning revolves around mankind's demise at his own hands, via nuclear war. The title track is a heavy song that deals with unfair treatment of inmates, namely, the electric chair. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is a very epic song about dying needlessly in war, similar to "Disposable Heroes" on Master of Puppets. "Fade to Black" is a slower song, which is based on being intensely depressed, to the point of suicide. The somber, melancholic tone definitely reflects the meaning. "Escape" is a weaker song, easily the lowlight on this particular disc. But then, it's better than most bands' best. "Trapped Under Ice" is probably about censorship, but the lyrics are somewhat vague. Then comes my favorite, "Creeping Death". It is drawn from Exodus, in the Old Testament. It is based on the final plague of Egypt, the Angel of Death. Finally, the end track, "Call of Ktulu", a reference to a horror story by H.P. Lovecraft. If you come across anything by that author, read it to this. Overall, this is an excellent album, worth every cent. Fans of new bands, as I was, check out any of Metallica's older discs. If you are already an old-school metalhead, you should have owned this since it came out. Just buy it because Prez Wilson said so! Summary: |
