Advantages: Strong songs, Sheer talent, Best recdord of their career

Disadvantages: NONE

Metallica’s best work? I certainly think so! This album is a natural progression from Kill ‘Em All. It retains the same raw sound, but this time round, the songs are stronger, the solo’s bigger and better and the riffs even meatier!

The albums heaviest offering is the crushing ‘Fight Fire With Fire’, a superfast thrash anthem. Title track, Ride the Lightning offers no light relief, following on where Fight Fire left off. Track four sees the band trying out something a bit more mellow. Fade to Black is a heart welling ballad about how someone stole one of the bands amps apparently! A fantastic song and Metallica’s most emotive work to date.

The rest of the album follows in the same mould as the opening, until we come to the closing track, the instrumental Call of Ktulu. Absolutely breathtaking! Could there be a more perfect end to a perfect album?
