Advantages: reasonable recording
Disadvantages: does not suit his voice
I am a definite fan of Andrea Bocelli, and have been since purchasing a copy of Aria some time ago. Therefore I was delighted to discover that a friend of mine had a copy of Romanza, which he offered to lend to me. Sadly, this album was a serious disappointment. Andrea Bocelli has a very good and well trained voice, ideally suited to the type of operatic aria to which I am accustomed, although he performs a totally inappropriate selection of songs on this album. I am quite amazed that he ever recorded this, as he has said himself how much he loves operatic works. The songs do not allow him to make any real use of the quality of his voice, and would probably sound just as good by many basic ballad singers. If you like Andrea Bocelli for the same reason that I do, which is the clarity and control of his voice, then I would not recommend this recording at all. You may as well listen to The Rolling Stones singing country and western or Vera Lynn singing Rock around the Clock. There are still several recordings of Andrea Bocelli's which I have not heard, I just hope that are better chosen than this one.
