Almighty: The Definitive Collection
by benlepensive - written on 20/09/09 (Very useful, 15 readings)
Rating:
The Almighty albums have been running a few years and here is one of the earlier additions to the series. The Definitive Collection suggests that you cannot live without it! Well, news flash! You probably can. There are two CDs, twelve songs on the first disc and then a whopping eighteen track megamix on disc two. The album kicks off with a Diana Ross cover. 'Upside Down' is sped up, given some kick drums and a sufficient if not slightly tame vocal. The vocals seem to get a bit lost in the mix for me. Next up is a hideous remake of Kim Syms' 'Too Blind To See It.' The original was quite dancey anyway and had a wicked groove, so I don't know why it needed a cover. This version ...
90 Club Hits From The 90's
by benlepensive - written on 05/10/09 (Very useful, 26 readings)
Rating:
There are a staggering ninety tracks on this album, so you cannot say that you don't get value for money. You might also find the nine quid price tag quite alluring, I know I did. Crammed to the hilt with dance tracks from the nineties, there are some great memories here. We begin with the ravery and trippy 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' by Baby D. A wicked enticing piano and a rhythm to send you bonkers, it still sounds amazing. Less keen on Cola Boy, which is too samey and the production sounds weak when you listen to it now. I also find Love Inc rather dull, with a vapid melody and a lacklustre feel about it. Head instead to the haunting 'Chime' by Orbital which is creepy ...
100 Hits - Disco
by benlepensive - written on 01/10/09 (Very useful, 18 readings)
Rating:
These 100 hits series are usually pretty good value, obviously you get one hundred songs and five discs worth of good choices. Occasionally they like to surprise you by chucking in one or two suspect tracks, but on the whole, they are a worthy purchase for a little over five quid. The Disco package is off to a rousing start with the pacey 'Disco Inferno' by The Trammps. It has a fiery chorus and would certainly encourage me onto a dancefloor. Jacksons 'Blame It On The Boogie' is sweet enough, though recent exposure has kind of killed the song for me. Sister Sledge's overtly slinky 'Lost In Music' is what disco is all about for me. A freshy cool vocal and a set of beats ...
