So what does this music sound like?. It is difficult to pigeon hole Bruce, obviously he is an amazing bass guitar player, initially studying Cello and composition at the Royal Scottish Academy before being in Alexis Korner and Graham Bond's bands. I should firstly state that these 'introduction to' albums are fantastic in every respect. I have bought ones in the past on John Cale, Richard and Linda Thompson and Sandy Denny and they do what they say on the tin; provide an introduction to a culty artist that deserves to be more widely heard. So is the case with 'Rope Ladder To The Moon', a fine introduction to the early solo career of Jack Bruce. As bass player with Cream, Bruce co-wrote some of their best songs including 'Sunshine Of Your Love' with Eric Clapton and lyricist Pete Brown and 'White Room' and 'I Feel Free' [two of my faves] with Pete Brown.
