Heat Light And Sound - Eliza Carthy
by Feathers - written on 05/09/00 (Very useful, 22 readings)
Rating:
first album from Eliza Carthy . It features traditional folk tunes which she has arranged. The best thing about this album is Eliza's insane fiddle playing - she really gives it some welly. This is a CD which will definitely get your feet tapping and I certainly enjoy singing along to it. Her voice is not fantastic, but that ...

Heat Light And Sound - Eliza Carthy
by Bryn Pearson - written on 16/08/01 (Very useful, 46 readings)
Rating:
Eliza Carthy is (and this may be a blessing or a curse to her) still best known for being the daughter of living folk legends Martin Carthy and Norma Watersone. However, that's all i'm going to say about her parents, because I think its far more fair to judge the lass on ehr own merits. Heat Light and Sound is Eliza's first solo album (although I suspect not her first forray into a recording studio). It's largely traditional - only one song of hers on this one - and may therfore be surprising to those who have only encountered her later and better known work on Red Rice. The whole sound to this album is very traditional, and uses traditional ...

Red Rice - Eliza Carthy
by Bryn Pearson - written on 04/05/01 (Useful, 32 readings)
Rating:
a lot of Eliza Carthy's own material on it, including The Piano Accordian Song - which is excellent, and a very surprising piece at the end which sounds more like a dance track than folk, and uses the violin to great effect. This is a very lively, energetic album. Rice is a far more traditional album with tracks like ...
