Rubber Soul was the key which opened the door to an evolution of pop pin ups into musical visionaries. Often regarded as one of their finest efforts (behind Revolver), rubber soul contains every aspect of the Beatles broad musical taste, with each of the main songwriting members all contributing equally (Lennon/McCartney/Harrison). There's pop perfection with songs like 'In my Life', dirty old rock n roll (drive my car), classic ballads (girl), and aspects of country, classical music, Motown and Dylan. This creative scope and willingness to try things new can only now be labeled 'Beatlesesque'. The fab four could no longer be defined as anything after this ... Read the complete review

~~Intro~~ Rubber Soul was The Beatles' sixth official album release and was a landmark album in many ways when it was first released on vinyl in December 1965. It was the first Beatles album to include all four band members as composers and to have no cover versions. It was also the last time that The Beatles would release two albums of new material in one year (It followed on from "Help", which was released in August of the same year). The cover was the first to not to have The Beatles name on the front. The title of the album can be seen as a commentary on the music scene of the time, but it was also a kind of play on words coined up by McCartney. By the ... Read the complete review

The Beatles sixth album, Rubber Soul, was recorded in a hurry, intended for the Christmas market, which give them a maximum of seven weeks to complete the album. Most of the songs were recorded into the early hours of the morning, 'Drive My Car' being one example and completed in one session. George Harrison played a distinctive sitar on the excellent Lennon song 'Norweigian Wood', the first time the instrument had ever appeared on a pop/rock song. 'You Won't See Me' was a McCartney recording just a short time before the album was released leaving little time for any remixing. 'Nowhere Man' is another fine Lennon ... Read the complete review

This classic album is one of the most popular Beatles albums and certainly marked a change of musical direction for the boys as well as a more mature and "deep" style of music. I've been a Beatles fan for over 20 years now and as I have grown, so has my love and understanding of the music, which has never dated, more than 40 years on. I shall now give a brief runthrough of the album, track by track. 1. Drive My Car - one of the Beatles songs everyone knows. Cheerful with a really funky guitar. Easy to listen to, catchy, perfect pop sound. 2. Norwegian Wood - another very well known Beatles song. I love the sitar in it, and this was ... Read the complete review

Rubber Soul was the first Beatles album I ever listened to. Before hearing this album my only exposure to their music was through various compilations and watching Heartbeat on a Sunday night. Listening through their entire catalogue chronologically Rubber Soul continues the progress made on Help! For me, this is The Beatles first really good album. I can sense that there was plenty of thought put into everything here, the tracks, the order,...... the title? I'm not so sure about that but I wouldn't let something as insignificant as an odd meaningless album title put me off. As an album Rubber Soul moves away from the sound of yesterday's ...
