Advantages: Great album
Disadvantages: None
I am a huge Beatles fan, and have been for a number of years, more years than I would care to remember actually!
Obviously the Beatles music varies from different styles, especially when comparing their earlier material to their later material, and most people probably have a preference as to which of the styles they prefer.
My personal preference however, would be their earlier material, and in particular the "Rubber Soul" album is one of my personal favourites.
Recorded in 1965, the album for me really captures the complete 'essence' of the Beatles collective talents, and the upbeat rhythm of several songs on the album make it a real winner in my collection.
The track list on the album is:
1 - Drive My Car
2 - Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
3 - You Won't See Me
4 - Nowhere Man
5 - Think For Yourself
6 - The Word
7 - Michelle
8 - What Goes On
9 - Girl
10 - I'm Looking Through You
11 - In My Life
12 - Wait
13 - If I Needed Someone
14 - Run for Your Life
This album is a classic example of how the Beatles music really captures a lot of different genres; the upbeat, quick tempo of tracks such as "Drive My Car" and "Run For Your Life" is a huge contrast to slower tracks such as "In My Life", which is a fine example of a Beatles masterpiece.
There are better albums by the Beatles to be fair, but when it comes to some of their earlier work, i definitely would recommend this album.
This album is definitely worth a listen in my opinion, and it remains one of my favourite albums some thirty years after I first heard it. It is a highly recommended piece of musical history, in my opinion!
Summary: One of the Beatles earlier albums

- 08/11/09 Could have done with slightly more detail, but a pretty solid review of a good record. Any record with "In My Life" would be good, I suppose! |
