Pretty Woman II? Let's face it..this movie just did not have the same charm and magic as Pretty Woman. There just wasn't the chemistry that made the former such a hit. Don't fret though..I AM writing a review on the soundtrack and not the movie. To all you soundtrack lovers out there, I have to say that this one is a must! The compilation of pop '80s' anthems, intimate sentimental love numbers and the more contemporary country music songs makes up for what the movie lacked. The soundtrack as does the movie opens with U2's classic 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For'. Perfectly fitting the scene where Julia Roberts makes her getaway from perspective wedding number three. Her running and heartbreaking nature is then described by Hall and Oates' 'Maneater'. Ouch! Moving along and changing rhythms, The Dixie Chicks contribute two songs, 'Ready To Run' and a very happy rendition of Phil Collins' 'You Can't Hurry Love'. Martina McBride is another country diva contributing the song 'I Love You'. Two of my favourite songs from this soundtrack are 'You Sang To Me' by Marc Anthony and 'Never Saw Blue LIke That' by Shawn Colvin (also features on the Dawson's Creek Soundtrack Vol II). Both are beautiful songs with lyrics that just speak volumes. Other artists featured on this soundtrack include Eric Clapton with a mellow rendition of 'Blue Eyes Blue', Evan & Jaron (also of Dawson's Creek fame), soulful songs from Allure and Coco Lee, Billy Joel's 'Where Were You (On Our Wedding Day) and last but not least, a little bit of jazz by Miles Davis. All in all, these songs stand great by themselves. I mean, you don't necessarily have to associate it with the movie and for you die hard Roberts/Gere fans out there, I hope I haven't spoilt the movie for you. Sorry! Couldn't be helped.
This soundtrack though will certainly cheer you up. The compilation of songs must be one of the best when it comes to soundtracks. It really sang to me. 'All the while you were in front of me I didnt realise, I just can't believe I didnt see it in your eyes...You Sang To Me..'
