Megadeth release, 1990, Capitol Records. At release: Dave Mustaine, Lead guitar, Lead vocals Dave Ellefson, Bass Marty Friedman, Lead guitar Nick Menza, Drums Prior to this release, megadeth were highly successful, but had struggled to achieve the universal acclaim of other metal bands of the time. However, Rust in Piece changed all that, instantly. "Rust in Piece", the title track, introduces the album brilliantly with a tempo of fierce aggression, gripping you and throwing you headlong into the unrestrained brilliance of Dave Mustaines lyrics. Rust in peice is a birds eye view through the eyes of persons ... Read the complete review

I was a bit sceptical of Megadeth at first, but after I heard 'Peace Sells...but Who's Buying?' I was hooked. There's the same riff 'catchiness' that there is in Metallica, Slayer etc. I saw Rust in Peace in the HMV sale, so I naturally bought it. I'd already heard Holy Wars...The Punishment Due, and had loved it, so I thought I'd give the whole album a try. Holy Wars is undoubtedly my favourite track. The lyrics describe conflicts in the Middle East, but could well be about any kind of holy war, crusade etc. The riff is really great - fast and yet not bland like some riffs can be, although it does get a tad repetitive. A+ Hangar 18 is one of those ... Read the complete review

Megadeth were quiet different 10 year's ago, Frontman Dave Mustaine was still battling with drugs and depression, the band had only just found a solid drummer and lead guitarist that they would stay with for many more classic albums. Anyhow...to the album. The first thing that strikes you about this album is the cover… YELLOW! The cover is very yellow with nuke symbols and has a good cold war feel, especially with the country leader likenesses on the cover (Bush, Gorbachov) so in a way this is a concept album. This was the 2nd Megadeth album I really heard and all those years back it really hit me hard, I appreciate the complexity and tempo changes even ... Read the complete review

Megadeth was, in 1990 - Dave Mustaine - Vocals/guitars Marty Freidman - Guitars David Ellefson - Bass Nick Menza - Drums This album, released in 1990, was Megadeth's third album under Capitol Records, and it was their fourth overall. Now let me get to the point, this album absolutely rips. I will use an alphabet rating system on this album, and will rate each song individually, and then the album as a whole. 1. Holy Wars ... The Punishment Due - This song has a great opening riff and some very interesting lyrics. The only thing that pulls this song down is that it kind of drags on a little at the ... This is one of mustaines' finest songwriting moments. Marty friedman on guitar joined the band at this stage with his exotic style of guitar playing -very much middle eastern inspired. This gave the band an edge over there competitors. This came out around slayers south of heaven and metallicas black album. The production is very good and the songs are complex thrash anthems with mustaines singing much improved. This band were in the big four of thrash with the other three being anthrax, metallica and ... Read the complete review

The Symmetry Of I The Circle Of O - And Oceans
Upbeat, atmospheric and surprisingly accessible black metal.
Second disc may disappoint, and the whole thing isn't quite as experimental as you may expect.
The Silent Enigma: The Definitive Edition - Anathema
My Kantele - Amorphis
Interesting covers and a more prog/folk side shining through.
Acoustic version was already on the album, and the rest isn't brilliant.
Far From The Sun - Amorphis
A bit of a seventies throwback, if you like that sort of thing.
Boring, disappointing and annoying.
Am Universum - Amorphis
Good enough atmospheric rock.
The dullest Amorphis album so far.
A.m. G.o.d.: Allotropic/Metamorphic Genesis Of Dismorphism - And Oceans
A band moving forward.
It looks like the wrong way.
A Natural Disaster - Anathema
The sadness returns.
Overlong and repetitive as usual.
