Advantages: Superb live versions of metallica classics with a diffrence

Disadvantages: Little bit too much Orchestra sometimes, not often though

Metallica, the metal mainstay had decided to have a little bit of a concert one night. And just for a laugh, they decided to ask the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra to join in with them. S&M is the live recording of the awesome event that was a combination of Metallica and the Symphony Orchestra.
There's the old favourites 'Enter Sandman' and 'Human', but they've been performed on a huge scale which, as hard as it may seem, improves these classics. The added effects from the Orchestra, conducted by the superb Michael Kamen enhance some of these metal classics greatly, but they don't do some of them justice.
'Fuel' and 'Hero of the Day', although kind of supercharged, are just not quite as good as the originals. One big song that really benfits is 'Master of Puppets', which basically blew me away when I heard it for the first time. Think of the energy that Metallica brought to their music before and then triple it with the Orchestra and you just about come close to how S&M sounds.
Granted, Metallica and Orchestra may not seem like a great combination, but a lot of Metallica music is based in symphonic metal anyway, so in general, the music benefits superbly.
The tracks chosen for the concert were some of the best of Metallica and I think one that should get special mention is their superb rendition of 'Battery'.
