Little Mix (consisting of members Jesy, Perrie, Leigh-Anne and Jade) have done incredibly well since becoming the first group to ever win the X factor, and the first girl group to even get past week 7 on the show. Their first album, DNA was a hit, and that is no different for this album.
Topping the UK and the US album charts in the top 5, it's clear that this group has something special to give. This album I also find is a huge step up from their first efforts, a more mature sound delving into RnB and Soul, with some great dance tracks to match.
If you want an album that has brilliant tracks, for any emotion, sung with some great powerful female vocals, this is the album for you. Personal track favourites include 'Move' the funky dance track reaching the top 3 in the UK singles chart, and 'Salute' the title track, with some awesome women empowering lyrics. If you have teenage daughters as well, this is a great album to send a message. There's a lot of lyrics about empowerment for women, and loving who you are and I think the Little Mix girls really set a great example for young girls.
On the more emotional side of the album, tracks like 'Towers' and 'Good Enough' are some chilling ballads with excellent vocals, that I think will really surprise non fans of the X factor, as it really shows off their ability, despite the fact they all originally auditioned as solo artists and were formed into a band on the show.
Overall, this is a great buy. A pop album, with influence of RnB and Soul music, there are plenty of tracks to get you dancing, or crying with emotion. It's not the best album, as some of the tracks are a little forgettable, and seem more like fillers overall, but in general, a great buy and something I strongly recommend.
Little Mix are a girlband containing four members. The group was formed on 2011's X Factor and consists of members Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall. They were the only group to ever win the show during its 9 years on air. The girls released their first album DNA in 2012 and this is their second album released at the end of 2013.
There are two versions of the album, this review focuses on the deluxe version of the album which is currently selling for £10 on Amazon.
Salute - The title song from the album. This song has a real military feel to it and drums and trumpets are used. The song talks about recruiting other girls and I really like the tone of it. I love the way the vocals fit with the music. It is a really strong opening track on the album and it definitely gives you a flavour of what's to come. The song has a fun feel to it and it is definitely good to sing along to.
Move - Probably one of the most well known songs from the album. This was the girls first single from the album and was released at the end of 2013. The song is upbeat and fast paced and has a really good beat to it. It is very catchy and definitely one to dance to. The lyrics talk about being in a club and them wanting a guy to get up and dance with them. I find that this song can be heard again and again and I still don't get fed up of it. It's very modern and I think the girls gave a really good sneak peak of what the album has to offer by releasing this single.
Little Me - This was the second song to be released from the album and the girls released this right at the end of December. The lyrics talk about how you must live your life to the full and you only really get one chance. This is one of the more laid back and slower songs on the album but it still has a really strong beat. It is very catchy and I do like singing along to it!
Nothing Feels Like You - This is a fast tempo track with lots of background music and it does remind me a little bit of Move. The lyrics are about nothing being as good as their loved one. I like this song and it shows the girls emotional side a little more than a lot of the other songs.
Towers - This is a ballad and although I wasn't entirely sure about it at first because I do usually prefer the faster tempo songs I really love it now. It is a beautiful song and this really helps to highlight the girls talents. The song is about a break up and here the girls are really opening up and showing their weaker side. The lyrics are really beautiful and I'm sure most people can relate to them in some way. My favourite lyric is probably 'Once we were made like towers, Everything could have been ours'.
Competition - This is definitely a favourite of mine and it actually always makes me think of my partner when I hear it because it reflects a lot of our relationship! The lyrics talk about how someone always has to be right and have the last word. The song has a really catchy beat and I love the chorus. My favourite lyric is probably 'You smile while grinding your teeth, You clap while stomping your feet, You act about 17'. I have heard the music from this on a couple of tv programmers and I hope the girls do release it as a single because it is a brilliant song.
These Four Walls - This is another ballad on the album and initially I wasn't keen however now I absolutely love it. It provides a nice moment of calm on such a busy and upbeat album. The song talks about a break up and the difficulty of getting over someone. My favourite lyric is probably 'I tried to smile today, Then I realised there's no point anyway'.
About The Boy - This was my favourite song on the album for a long time. It is a very fast and upbeat song and I love singing along to it. The lyrics talk about how much you can like someone but your not quite sure why. There is a really good, heavy beat to the song and it fits with the lyrics really well.
Boy - I love the attitude of this song. The lyrics talk about how a friend is trying to help a girlfriend get over her good for nothing boyfriend. I love the beat to the song and the lyrics are often sand very bluntly and matter of fact. My favourite lyric is 'Another breakup, make up, When you gonna wake up?'
Good Enough - The lyrics to this song are very heartfelt and I enjoy listening t the song and can relate to them in many ways. The song talks about how you can never be good enough for some people and how disheartening and hurtful this can be. The song is a slower song and the lyrics are accompanied by piano. It is a beautiful song and I really enjoy listening to it.
Mr Loverboy - This is probably my least favourite song on the album. It has a real reggae style to it and although it has a good beat to it and is catchy I have just never really gelled with the song.
A Different Beat - I love this song. The beat is really upbeat and fast and it is a real party song. This song always cheers me up and puts me in the mood to dance. It is a great song and if it were to be released as a single I think that the girls would do very well.
See Me Now - I love the moral of this song and it is about beating the odds and defying those who stand against you and being a success. It is a really driven song and I love turning this up loud and thinking about where I want to get to in life. Most people will be unfortunate enough to come across those who doubt them in life and this song is a real hit back at these negative people. The tempo of this song is a lot slower than a lot of the tracks on the album but it isn't really a ballad as it still has a decent beat. The girls vocal talents are really highlighted here and I love listening to this song.
They Just Don't Know You - I think this is my favourite song on the album. The beginning of the song is quite low and has an almost dark tone to it. Although the vocals are quite upbeat the background music is quite flat and accompanied by quiet clapping. I love the opening of the song and it highlights all of the 'problems' a guy has according to her family. The song is saying that she doesn't care what they think and she would do anything for him. My favourite line is definitely 'my sister says she doesn't like the way you do your hair but I know that she's jealous so why would I even care!?' I like the moral of the song and I think we have all been stuck between a partner and family or friends at a point. The chorus is very catchy and the vocals fit so well with the music. I really hope the girls release this as a single as I think it could be very popular and could be very successful for them.
Stand Down - This is another song about succeeding and proving those who doubt you wrong. The song has quite a military feel to it again and reminds me a little bit of Salute. The song has a real positive feel to it and it always wakes me up when I listen to it on the way to work!
There is also an acoustic version of Little Me on the album.
I love this album and it is one that I return to time and time again. It is a very strong album and there are lots of songs on there that I think are absolutely brilliant. The album has an overall upbeat tempo and it really shows the girls drive on it. The album is really suitable for anyone. There isn't explicit language but the girls still manage to get their point across. I will definitely be buying the next album when it is released.
Salute is the second album from British Girl Group Little Mix. The album was released in the United Kingdom in November 2013 and so is very recent; it's also the follow up album to their debut album DNA. The CD is currently available to buy from Amazon for a price of £8.00

This album is fierce. I thought that their debut album DNA was pretty out there but compared to this album, DNA seems pretty tame in comparison. This album is very R 'n' B. I think that Little Mix have really found 'their' sound with this album. These style of music really seems to suit them. I really like this album - it's very fresh and full of energy.
There are some really songs on this album. Songs which stand out the most for me include 'Move' (a great upbeat track - it's a real party song and has single potential), About The Boy (this really shows of the girls vocals - brilliant - well done girls!!) and Little Me. A great 'Little Mix' of songs!!
This album is bursting with attitude and girl power which I love. It is the kind of album which you can listen to when you have got the girls around for a girlie night in or for when you are getting ready for a night out. It is the kind of album which makes you feel good to be a girl. It is definitely a feel-good album and I like the fact that the songs are about things all girls can relate to.
The girls sound amazing on this album - especially Perry! It's clear that a lot of auto-tune has been used on this album which is something that usually annoys me. Although, fair play the girls do sound really good on this album!!
All in all, I would definitely recommend this album!! Make sure you put it on your list for Santa this Christmas!
Thanks for reading!
