... all their good songs at the start of that album. But this one is different. Sure, there are flaws. It doesnt string together as nicely as Hot Fuss, the songs seem less connected. And it has more than it's fair share of filler tracks. But overall, I think this is a good album. Of course, I could just be saying that because it contains one of my favourite songs of all time, When You Were Young. but there are other things. The songs are spread out a bit more evenly, and the general feel of it is just more ... well, A...more

Premium Review Sam's Town - The Killers: There's no Fuss over Sam's Town (1150 words)
by - written on 16/01/08 (Very useful, 200 readings)
Rating:

Here it was. The long anticipated second album after the world wide smash of their debut album, Hot Fuss. Released in the UK in October 2006 on the Lizard King label the critics were sharpening their knives in anticipation due to Brandon Flowers, the lead singer, describing the album as "one of the best albums in the past twenty years" and that it would be "the album that keeps rock & roll afloat." The amazing success of Hot Fuss, hype surrounding the second album release and claims of grandeur by Flowers made for a heady mix of both excitement and trepidation when Sam's Town was released. The album takes its name from the Sam's Town ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review A bit of a dissapointment really (1723 words)

The difficult second album, the one which cuts the over-hyped bands from Sheffield (oooh controversy to start a review tut tut) from the real talent of someone like Tim Buckley. So where does the Killers follow up to the hugely successful "Hot Fuss" end up? Does it do what many current bands seem to do...and fall flat on it's alternative rock arse, or does it exceed all expectations and actually end up a decent album...Well read on. The Killers, an american band formed in 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States have taken a very British sound and made it more mainstream in America. The band formed when Brandon Flowers saw an advert in the paper by ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sam's Town - The Killers: THE KILLERS - SAM'S TOWN (406 words)
by - written on 30/10/09 (Very useful, 6 readings)
Rating:

SAM'S TOWN is the title of American band THE KILLERS' album. The album features 13 tracks which I will review. The opening song on the album is SAM'S TOWN which is a fast paced opener with strong vocals from lead singer Brandon Flowers which are aided by the superb instrumental support. ENTERLUDE has a corking intro which kicks into gear when the vocals enter while the chorus is catchy with soothing melodies. WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG contains really powerful vocals that guide the melodies alng and has a bouncy rhythm at the chorus which creates an uplifting effect. BLING tries too hard with the lyrics that the musc is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Glitz and Glam from the Killers (391 words)

Hot Fuss was massive. Some amazing songs from the Killers and a wonderful debut. So what would there follow up be like? Well Sam's Town came out back in 2006. I do like this album, but don't think it's quite as good as Hot Fuss. So here's what I think. 1. Sam's Town - Title track. Typical Killers, lot's of glitz and glam. Not there best work but a decent opening to the album. 8/10 2. Enterlude - A nice little turn, some nice piano. Smile! 8/10 3. When We Were Young - Wow! What a song this is. It has everything, and yes that is a kitchen sink!! I love this song. 'He doesn't look a thing like Jesus, but he talk like a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sam's Town - The Killers: Some amazing songs, but some awful songs (464 words)
by - written on 18/07/08 (Very useful, 36 readings)
Rating:

The Killers have two types of song : The amazing and the terrible. And this album just proves this point with some amazingly awful songs such as 'Bones' and 'For Reasons Unknown' yet still have some simply amazing songs in the form of 'Sam's Town' and 'When You Were Young' I think one of the main reasons why so many of the songs sound bad is because the album is overproduced in places. The songs that have a more natural band sound to them sound a lot better. The album kicks off with a good song, which is 'Sam's Town' which makes several references to being American, the biggest one is Sam being Uncle Sam. They were often thought of by many as being ...  Read the complete review
