Advantages: Strong sound, good beats, uplifting in places
Disadvantages: Needs more songs along the lines of 'Read my Mind'!
I have to say that I do like this album. It is a very positive offering from a band that disappointed me after their first album, 'Hot Fuss'. Don't get me wrong, it could still be vastly improved with more consistency in the qaulity of the tracks but it's still good.
Upon first listening, it is very clear too see the drastic change of style that The Killers have made from their first album to their second. If you didnt know you would'nt believe 'Hot Fuss' and 'Sam's Town' where the same band, so just because you liked the first album is no guarantee that you will enjoy the second.
But in my opinion this is definitely a big improvement on 'Hot Fuss', which, while containing three or four brilliant songs as a whole was not an exceptional album. This album seems more even and maintains a high level of quality throughout. However i don't believe that it ever grabs the listener. The tracks are good, but no better than that, with mabye the exception of two or three tracks which stand out, 'When You Where Young', 'For Reasons Unknown' and 'Read My Mind' are the tracks that stand out.
In fact, 'Read my Mind' is a quite awesome track. It's actually the song that made me purchase this item. It's a beautifully created song that builds up to a fantastic chorus and then maintains a more mellow yet still pleasurable beat throughout the verses.
This album isn't going to take your living room by storm, nor is it going to set the pulse rate soaring to a new high (except with 'Read my Mind') but it is a pleasant offering and an enjoyable listen.
Summary: Good album but perhaps still not enough real good songs
