The increasingly popular Deicide come perilously close to mainstream metal on their seventh full-length release 'Scars of the Crucifix,' resembling industrial metal band Fear Factory on occasion in the machine gun precision of the guitar and drum rhythms, but still maintaining a fundamentally death metal approach thanks largely to Glen Benton's demonic vocals, the only aspect of the band that is always reliable and impressive. Sound quality may be irritating to some. Great pagan atmosphere. Poor production spoils effect of instruments. Creative and distinctive fusion of metal and symphony.
