I bought this album as I have always been a Geri fan. I have also respected her values and the way that she sticks up for her own sex.
Okay, the vocals are NOT brilliant on this album, however it is a definite feel good album. The four singles are included on this album, all four of which went to Number One for Geri.
I would class this album as pop. It is heading in the same direction as the music of the Spice Girls, but with an added Geri flavour. Geri likes to spice things up a bit (literally) and she doesn't hold back on this album. I admire her for this!
The lyrics are far from serious. They are very tongue-in-cheek and rather silly. However, I find this rather amusing and the whole album seems to lift my spirits when they need lifting. Okay, it's miles from being the best album in the world, but it's a lot of fun. Surely pop music is meant to be fun?
The album plays for just over half an hour, which may seem short but it stops the listener from becoming bored of it. Plus you can learn the songs easier with there only being ten songs to learn. You'll be singing them in no time. Overall this isn't a masterpiece but it's not a bad offering from Miss Halliwell. It's a far cry from her days in the Spice Girls but it's worth a listen. Who knows? You may even like it...
Worth a listen.
Geri Halliwell always wanted to be famous and she's achieved her goals by being one fifth of the Spice Girls, being a talent show judge, a writer, a charity worker, a model, and now she's got a swimwear collection out now.
A lot of us would have heard of Geri at some point of our lives. Weather you know her as Ginger Spice from the Spice Girls, her solo stuff or you remember the time where she was just everywhere in the media. She's famous for mischievous and cunning ways and her debut album Schizophonic helped her prolong her public interest. In Schizophonic she kills her Ginger Spice alter ego, but at the same time keeps that "girl power" attitude.
I think this album is very much like marmite, you either love or hate the album. I also think that it's the kind of album where you have to actually like the artist in order to appreciate the album because it's a really personal record.
I personally adore this album. It's a cut above a lot of pop albums. I love how horrendous the album is. Geri is a terrific woman and I can see how people all over the world can be inspired by her despite being a weak vocalist. Sometimes when she's singing, I feel that she's shouting and her notes are totally flat. But I can tell she put so much effort into the ten tracks on the album. I love this woman despite her lack of talent and admire her for making the most out of what she's got.
The album contains catchy and vamp songs with camp jazz, oriental and trance influences with some cute ballads packed with energy and simple lyrics, but people would be put off by the weak vocals or they'd feel embarrissed to have anything Spice Girls related in their music collection. I don't really care that her vocals are bad because I think they add a sparkle to the album that helps make the album stand out.
Schizophonic is in my opinion what the third Spice Girls' album would have sounded like if she was still in the band. It's positive and has a strong girl power theme that wasn't there in Spice Girl's R&B album, Forever which was an inspiration to the TV show Loose Women.
Now I've mentioned the album as a whole and compared it to Forever, let's take a look at the tracks of the album. So let's start with Look At Me, her first solo single and track from the album. It's got vibrant musical arrangements with a personal punch to it. Geri sounds really sassy and I think it suits her vocals. Maybe she's not a terrible vocalist after all. Maybe she's tolerable when she has the right style.
Next up are her next two singles, Lift Me Up and Mi Chico Latino. Lift Me Up shows all her weak points. Mi Chico Latino is a broken Spanglish song that is summery with Latin style musical arrangements that are simular to Jenifer Lopez' earlier stuff. I CAN'T THIS EMOTIONAL VIOLENCE!
Goodnight Kiss is a slow jazz influenced song that doesn't do anything. It doesn't go anywhere and I feel absolutely nothing when I listen to this song. While the vocals and musical arrangements do go hand in hand, it just doesn't appeal to me.
Bag It Up is my favourite song from Geri. It's nostalgic, it's energetic, it's vibrant, it's colourful and it bloody sucks. Geri sounds awesome on this song because it's playful and I love how stupid this is. If the Spice Girls ever make a new album, it should have this sound.
When I listen to Sometime, it's in one ear and out the other. It's a forgettable song with a disjointed rhythm and the song is overall really boring. This song is so boring and forgettable that I feel like going to sleep when I hear it.
Let Me Love You comes across as an intitation of Shirley Manson with it's mild rock influences and Geri sounds very different compared to how she sounds in the other tracks of this album. It's quite terrific.
Someone's Watching Over Me is a cute ballad in my opinion. It's a filler in my opinion but it was interesting to see how Geri performs in that sort of song format. You're A Bubble has a vintage soul vibe that revolves around fame.
And that's Schizophonic for you. There's a lot of rubbish on this album but it's still able to be catchy and entertaining. I don';t think I'll be able to listen to this album for a while nor would I recommend it to anyone sober.
I got this on the basis that Geri Halliwell is a Spice Girl, if she wasn't i wouldn't remotely even give this a listen. It turns out this has a great vibe to it though and i found it uplifting and strangely enjoyed almost every song and i think what a great title to give the album and the cover art and CD is all nicely designed too so well done that as well!
Look at me, is incredibly catchy and the lyrics are very meaningful. Lift Me Up, is a real highlight with a great chorus and some great vocals i think it's a brilliant pop song. Walkaway, i think is a homage to Spice Girls - for leaving, this lacks the oomph with the chorus although i think the verses are superb. Mi Chico Latino reminds me of some of Emma Bunton's solo stuff, really original and out there and i love all the foreign and latino sounds - really catchy and strangely different. Goodnight Kiss, is really melochanic and i think it's Geri Halliwell to a T.
Bag It Up, Utter brilliance - so catchy, so different to anything else on this record. Sometimes, is quite nice - reminds me of something else by another artist but again another good one! I think Let Me Move You is slightly weaker than everything else on this record and Someone's Watch Over Me, has some great lyrics and meaning - brilliant. You're In A Bubble is a brilliant way to end a small record on a high.
The one positive thing i'll say is that It's a short album with only 10 songs, and normally pop songs are full of filler songs with 15-16 (hmmm S Club) i'm glad there's not much filler on this!
Geri split from the Spice Girls and quickly carved a successful solo career. Her debut album is a polished selection of tracks fuelled with Geri's growly vocals and some more restrained moments.
Who is she:
Geri was Ginger Spice of the Spice Girls, before quitting the group. She is now a fulltime mother
On this album:
The opener 'Look At Me' is an angry sounding song, in which Geri marches around crowing for people to look at her. It is a bold start and also an overly aggressive song. I don't like this song, finding it too snarling. Much better is the charming 'Lift Me Up' which allows Geri to explore her softer side. This ballad has warmth and emotion oozing from it and will make you think of being cuddled by a loved one.
The essence of summer is captured superbly in 'Mi Chico Latino'. This track gave Geri a number one hit and quite rightly so, it is a perfect pop gem. Her sweet vocals sitting well over a flamenco beat. It calls to mind Madonna's 'La Isla Bonita.'
Geri will set the pulse racing on 'Bag It Up' a funky disco number with saucy lyrics and plenty of flaunt.
'You're In A Bubble' is struggling to capitalise on what has come before, limping in as that added album track at the end
A gutsy and powerful album. She might not be the strongest singer, yet knows how to play into the pop market.
What on earth has Geri Halliwell done to provoke so much anger? To read some peoples reviews you would think she was evil. In an age when people decry so many performers for having no personality they then criticise Geri Halliwell for having one that does not exactly conform to what they want. She has even been criticised for having the temerity to appear in a political party broadcast. Just because she is not as articulate as some other people does not mean she does not have the right to have an opinion.
I have recently bought her album 'Schizophonic' and did so on the basis of some of the tracks which have already been released as singles. Now I will make no apologies for this next sentence. I like Geri Halliwell and I like her album. OK, there you have it. I have admitted it.
So what is it I like about this album. Apart from the fact I like Geri herself, I think she has a good easy to listen to voice. The songs are comparatively simple with easy lyrics. Geri herself is credited with jointly writing some of the songs including the singles 'Look At me', Mi Chico Latino' and 'Bag It Up'. The production is always excellent with pleasant backing which does not intrude into the singing.
But what is best is that the album is positive, uplifting and happy. I suppose there are some people who prefer to believe that you can only be opinionated if your negative and they will not like Geri or some or any of the boy bands or girl bands because they think it is cool to be destructive. Is Eminem more or less manipulative or manipulated than Geri? Discuss among yourselves, I'm listening to the album.
Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice is back alright. After leaving the Spice Girls, she's done many things including making an album, making her biography, going to Uganda for Comic Relief, being Goodwill Ambassador by the UN, singing "Happy Birthday" to Prince Charles. There are only ten songs on her album, but, for me, they are very very good. I wanna give my op on the album track by track, because I'm listening to it and it sounds good... 1. Look At Me - it's one of the best track of the album. I think the lyric is very good. 2. Lift Me Up - Brilliant. A really good song for when you want cheering up, Geri's voice is amazing on this one. 3. Walkaway - Starts with just atmospheric keyboards and Geri's vocals, it's another great pop song. 4. Mi Chico Latino - Obviously latin influenced, this is a cross between Madonna and Ricky Martin! Excellent track. THE BEST! 5. Goodnight Kiss - This is just absolutely first class, a touch of jazz, and blues guitar break. It suits Geri's vocals down to the ground. A vampy song, very very good. I think it's a reminder of her character in the Spice Girls' "Too Much" video. 6. Bag It Up - Disco track. A song that is definitely Spicy for me is "Bag It Up", the Geri's Brits performance from 'Schizophonic'! 'Bag It Up' contains the usual girl power exclamations and exhortations to 'the girls' that Geri clings to against all odds. "You know what to do now You're in control Who's wearing the trousers now? Treat him like a lady and spit him out Make him crazy Take him back then spit him out" 7. Sometime - Church organ and Gospel choir start, then goes into regular acoustic guitar-based pop, until later when it goes all 80's, which spoils it quite a bit. 8. Let Me Love You - absolutely excellent. Really goo
d Lyric and Sound. 9. Someone's Watching Over Me - Very moving slow song. One where you have to listen to the lyrics. 10. You're In A Bubble - Very surprising, this is the kind of track you would have thought Melanie B would have done! Geri left the Spice Girls to "find out who she was when she wasn't Ginger Spice". Apparently, this album is a melange of her personality. A brilliant debut solo , if Geri can keep this up, she'll be around for years. Go Geri, GOOOOO!! Buy it!
Schizo – adj. – Split Phonic – adj. – sound Schizophonic – Split sound (referring to the heaven and hell of Geri Halliwell and the slow and fast tracks on the album.) Ø History. *********** Geri Halliwell split up from the biggest girl band in the world the Spice Girls, a few years back and included in her statement, she said “I’ll be back” and come back she did. Geri has made a name for herself as a solo artist and even though she hasn’t got the greatest voice, she does know how to make some catchy tunes as well as having a great stage presence. I believe that if Geri wasn’t in the Spice girls from the beginning, they would never have got of the ground as she became the fuel which drove the girl group to the top. I wonder why they have only had 2 singles out since she has gone? Ø The releases *************** Geri’s first single release, “Look at me” got to number 2 in the charts but the follow-up single, “Mi Chico Latino” was a number one hit as well as the other releases “Life me up” and “bag it up”. Geri’s comeback single after a well deserved break was the cover of the weather girls hit “It’s Raining Men” this shot to number one and stayed there for two weeks. The second album soon followed but sadly the second release, “Scream if you wanna go faster” the namesake of the album failed to reach the number one spot only reaching number 7 sadly ending her row of number ones. Ø The Album Tracks. ******************** Look at me [4:32] This song has a very interesting intro with great played instruments. It is a really jazzy song with trumpets and sounds rather raunchy. The video that accompanied this song was clever as Geri dressed up as various characters including the bride, the nun, the vamp and the bitch. Many have sai
d that these four characters represented Geri. The song also when getting to the middle eight showed Ginger in a coffin and then showed the new Geri. This video was symbolic of the death of Ginger spice and the birth of Geri. The song is upbeat through-out and the backing vocals help the song along well. The song and the video was a great beginning to Geri’s career. 7.5/10 Lift me up [3:52] Beginning with an uplifting mood with bird song and various other elements, the third single off this album is a great calming and uplifting track. I like this song as the song itself is a feel good song and it is really nice to listen to. The string accompaniment is well worth a mention as it adds to the great feel of the song. The video to this track involved Geri’s car breaking down on a lonely road where she meets these little aliens (yeah stupid I know) the video accompanied the song well. The climax to the song is my favourite part of the song as it gets even more uplifting. This song is better than the first release and was number one beating Baby Spices hit with “What I am”. 8.5/10 Walk away [5:04] This is one of my favourites off this album. This song was surprisingly not released and it a very eerie as well as calming track. The track opens with ahhhhs from the vocalists and then Geri enters. She uses her voice in a more melodic way and also uses dynamics more in this song reflecting the mood of the song. Again, the string accompaniment is very good especially I the lead up to the chorus’. The are also additional instruments such as the flutes that add to the song. The song on the whole works well and is great to listen to. The song I think reflects Geri’s life at the time when she left the group as lyrics include “Who knows just where I’m going…..Walk away this time with my head up high” The climax to this song is once again great leading up to a great ending. 9/10
Mi Chico Latino [3:14] My favourite upbeat track on this album. I loved this single when it was released and it just reeked of summer and the Spanish theme that was so popular at that time of its release. The song begins with the sounds of waves lapping up against the shore and then it takes off with various instruments such as the Spanish guitar and syncopated beats as well as clapping. All these added to the hot summer, far off island theme that ran through-out the song. This song is definitely Spanish and all the elements work well including Geri as she goes back to her roots especially in the Spanish language section in the middle eight of the song. The video to this song was my fave as it involved Geri on a boat with hardly anything on. She looked very fit in this video and it proved that Ginger was dead as well as the spice girls! A great upbeat and very catchy track. 10/10 Goodnight Kiss [4:39] This song goes back in time a bit and definitely is no way pop related. The song is strongly influenced by the Jazz/ Mowtown Blues periods as this song is very sultry and slow with great instrumental accompaniments from such of the trumpets and brass. When I first heard this song, I was shocked to find it on such an album but although I don’t really like this kind of song, it does grow on you and Geri’s voice suits it well. The vocalist accompanying the singer sing well. 7/10 Bag it up [3:45] The last release off this album. The video I think was pants but that’s my opinion. Who would like to see a bunch of guys prance around with hardly anything on apart from tight shorts and a bunny tail! Certainly not me! Beginning with a computerised voice, the song leads into a disco filled track. This is a great catchy track with great beats and provoking lyrics “Men are Venus and girls are from Mars” the lyrics basically refer to the differences in men and women emphasising that we are worlds ap
art from each other. The song is really raunchy and very funky. 7.5/10 Sometime [4:05] This song begins like a hymn with an organ playing the intro and when Geri sings, a choir then accompanies her. The song then progresses into a more urban song with disc scratching and stronger beats. The chorus is rather feel good and is once again catchy. The bridge to each chorus is rather different to the rest of the song and seems to be filled with anger. I like the middle eight to this track, it is reminiscent of Lift me up and then leads back into the bridge which climaxes to the chorus. A track well worth listening to as Geri’s voice is quite good in this song. 8/10 Let me love you. [4:00] Beginning with an Indian woman singing a little melody whilst bending the notes she sings she is accompanied by a zither and sitar which are native to Indian music. The song then suddenly breaks into a psychedelic influence with beats as well as an electric guitar accompaniment. The Indian instruments are still evident in the song throughout. The Indian woman then re-enters before the song then goes into the middles eight. I like this song as it is rather different to what was expected in the album. 9/10 Someone’s watching over me [4:15] This song begins with the sound of children in a school yard. The song is written with Geri in mind as she lost her father when she was young and the song represents her feelings “Someone’s watching over me” “You said I’ll always be your little girl”. This song is nice to listen to and is well worth a listen. It is really obvious that this song is for her father as more references are used as the song fades “I’ll always be your daddy’s girl” 7.5/10 You’re in a bubble [3:26] This is the final song and what a song it is. The song is full of bitching and it is obvious that it is directed to those who h
ave done wrong to her, “Wipe that Prada smile off that Rada face”. I like the intro to this track as it begins with Geri laughing falsely and then saying in a posh philosophical way “It is important to laugh at ourselves, don’t take life to seriously”. When I first heard this song, I thought she was mad doing this song but it does grow and is a rather fuelled song with 100% effort put into the song. I like this song as it is rather bitchy to people and near the end, Geri goes “I’m only joking” and then laughs falsely once again making it rather difficult as to whether she is or not which I like. This song put the finishing touching to a surprising album. 8/10 Ø Verdict *********** This album was a surprise for me as I expected it to be just like a spice girl album but it was so much more than that. Geri shows off her writing talent in this album as she co-wrote them and used her experiences, which therefore influenced her songs. Whilst reading the inside of the cover one time, I came across a part where Geri gave thanks, it read “ This is dedicated to all those who stood by me – and those who didn’t, both equally important to make this album happen.” I liked this thanks because in a funny way, Geri was thanking those who didn’t stand by her as well as those who did for making her a success which I found rather funny. This album is a good album but I am not sure if the album on a whole could stand up to the present releases. If you love Geri then this album is for you. 3.5/5 so for Dooyoo's sake I'll say 4! :) Mike.
The first thing I ever heard from Geri Halliwell was when she was ‘Ginger’ in that world conquering, all girl group the ‘Spice Girls’. Over time I became a big fan of the Spice Girls and when Geri ‘Ginger Spice’ Halliwell quit I was hugely disappointed! I thought she would fade into obscurity, and that we would never hear from her again, how wrong was I? She became to be one of Britain’s most talked about celebrities! She is the female equivalent of Robbie Williams. Her much anticipated solo debut album ‘Schizo-Phonic’ is a mix of ‘red’ and ‘white’ songs. The red songs being sexy dance tracks such as; You're in a Bubble, Bag it Up, Look at Me, Goodnight Kiss, and Mi Chico Latino. The white songs are innocent slow songs such as; Lift Me Up, Walk Away, Someone’s Watching Over Me, Sometime and Let Me Love You. ‘Schizo-Phonic’ means, ‘split of vocal sounds’ and that’s exactly what you get, none of the tracks on this very diverse album sound at all similar! Each track stands on it’s own, with varying influences over music; "You're in a Bubble" is a rap song, whilst "Goodnight Kiss" reminds me of music from the 30's or 40's, and "Mi Chico Latino" is very much a Latin sounding song. Here’s my track-by-track review: TRACK ONE – LOOK AT ME (RED SONG): Geri's debut solo single from the album, which got to number 2 in the UK charts. This song is upbeat and has got a powerful 50's retro style tune. The song is all about seeing Geri ‘Ginger Spice’ Halliwell in a new light as Geri and not Ginger. There’s a really great 'opera' style outburst near the end of the song. Featured Lyrics: Look at me / You can take it all because this face is free / Maybe next time use your eyes a
nd look at me / I'm a drama queen if that's your thing baby / I can even do reality / TRACK TWO – LIFT ME UP (WHITE SONG): Geri's third single off the album, this was her second number 1 song! With its summery tune and relaxed beat this song is just a great tune typical ‘Sunday morning’ stuff. This shows Geri's vocal ability more than most of the other tracks on the album. All about going somewhere you have wished for and everything being ok. A chilled track but a superb chorus! Featured Lyrics: (Lift Me Up) When the day is over / (Take me up) When the sun is going down / (Show me love) I will be your angel now / (Lift Me Up) When the lights are fading / (Talk me down) When I'm flying way up high / (Show me love) And I'll be your angel for life / Your angel for life / TRACK THREE – WALKAWAY (WHITE SONG): The beginning of this song is really dramatic, Geri starts of in a slow voice to quiet wintry music, the song then slowly erupts into a powerful ballad. Although this song has a slow start, Geri's voice is amazing and the lyrics and very sad, all about her leaving the Spice Girls (I think). Featured Lyrics: Walk away this time with my head up high / Walk away just me and myself / Walk away with pride / Nothing left to hide / But it just feels right to be one / And just walk away / TRACK FOUR – MI CHICO LATINO (RED SONG): Her second single off the album and her first solo number 1! This is an upbeat Latino track, all about her 'Latino Man' who she is searching for. This is a very relaxed track with a powerful chorus; it has a brilliant beat and vibe. Geri who is half Spanish also offers us her little Spanish Rap near the end of the song, which raps up an excellent track! Featured Lyrics: Stolen moments time has broken / My eyes are open to this life-long mystery / And so I’ll go with w
hat I know / Take my chances and run with destiny / AND Now there's fire in my eyes / I'll break away and say goodbye / I’m free to be I’m letting go / I'll find my way so / TRACK FIVE – GOODNIGHT KISS (RED SONG): A retro beat with trumpets make this a very mellow song. Geri offers us an almost Blues track, with a great chorus. Geri's voice is so smooth on this track and the music could be a bit better but the chorus makes up for it. All about her and a certain man… A slow song but defiantly a good one! Featured Lyrics: So baby tonight, I might, let you in / No need to fight- I'm yours, so lets begin / But baby I know, when you go you'll touch I'll miss / But starting tonight if you don't do me right / Then it's just gonna end as a goodnight kiss / TRACK SIX – BAG IT UP (RED SONG): Geri has gone very upbeat with this number her third number 1 off the album. The verses are spoken but the chorus is sung superbly as Geri belts out the difference between Men and Woman. Bag It Up will most definitely get you dancing; it is a great dance track, the most upbeat on the album. Featured Lyrics: Bag It Up / Don't drop the baby / Boot him out / No buts or maybe / Wind him up / And make him crazy / Take him back / Don't drop the baby / Spin him out / No buts or maybe / Do your thing / Come on lady/ TRACK SEVEN – SOMETIME (WHITE SONG): A gospel choir sing at the start of the song with Geri leading it. The song stats off slow but then goes into a laid back beat with Geri giving her all on this chilled out song. The bridge is loud and breaks out into a chorus where Geri demonstrates she can sing! All about giving people space and time and the lyrics are amazing, as is the song. Featured Lyrics: There's somethin' I need to say / Somehow we'll find a way / I wish this was yesterday / Then mayb
e tomorrow I'll remember, sometime / Give me hope, in life I pray / But it's good when I'm bad / I'm sorry to say / TRACK EIGHT – LET ME LOVE YOU (WHITE SONG): This song has a weird Indian music sample at the beginning and you don't really know what to expect till the upbeat music breaks out into a little belter. Geri speaks the verses rather than singing but the bridge and chorus are brilliant and the guitar in the background is fantastic. The music and beat enhance the song and with the Asian sample the song is a cracker talking about letting someone love you :) Featured Lyrics: Let me love you, I know that I can / If you take me then you'll understand / So let me love you, I'll hold on tight / If not for tomorrow then maybe tonight / TRACK NINE - SOMEONES WATCHING OVER ME (WHITE SONG): Geri wrote this for her late father and it is one of the best songs on the album. The lyrics are amazing and the chorus may even bring a tear to your eye. It starts with the sound of children playing. The music is slightly upbeat but Geri demonstrates how she feels with the lyrics, there is a constant beat with Geri's voice. Featured Lyrics: Someone's watching over me / Though sometimes I wish that you would look away from me / Always watching over me / Though it's not perfect it can't be any other way for me / You said to me that time would never wait / So I ran a little faster / I was always there but just too late / so fate became a father / At the end of the day / so fate became a father / TRACK TEN - YOUR IN A BUBBLE (RED SONG): A mad track which may be a crack at the Spice Girls. Geri raps on here more than she sings and this is definitely a mad song (the kind you would have expected Geri to release before you had heard the album! This is the worst song on the album, but hey I like it! Featured Lyrics: Sugar daddies whizz kids city boy
s jet setting go getting with grown-up toys heart-breakin' / Money making earth-quaking, love faking where's your heart Did you sell that too / paranoid star lover you talk rich and that's your cover / The more you get the more you chase / There is something for everyone on Geri Halliwell’s Album Schizo-phonic, and I would recommend that you give it a try. But I would recommend you buy any Spice Girls album because I think they have talent as singers and writers, so give them a whirl! You may also want to read my review on Melanie C’s solo album ‘Northern Star’ Thank-you for reading my review, please leave a comment! :)
Geri Halliwell was one of the famous Spice Girls but the first to break away! After the sad departure Geri decided to bring out an album showing her fealings after leaving the Spice Girls. Her album went triple platinum and went to number four, while her singles did much better. She had three great number ones and a number two from this fantastic album Schizophonic – which means Shcizo/split and phonic/sound. 1) – LOOK AT ME – Geri’s first single off the album and what a change in music. She doesn’t have a brilliant voice but uses it well throughout the album, as proved in this song. It only got to number two but it was out the same week as Boyzone which beat it to the top spot. The song is all about her finding out who she really was. Was she a Vamp, a Virgin, a B***h or a Sister. The video was a big hit and set a hopeful career in the music industry as a solo artist for Geri. 8/10 2) – LIFT ME UP – This was the third song released from the album and was Geri’s second number one in a row. Not only is the song really catchy but it had a great video with aliens, who came to help Geri feel better as she was feeling low due to her car breaking down. Some good graphics and good vocals soured this song straight to the top of the charts. 9/10 3) – WALKAWAY – One of the biggest ballads Geri has done. It’s my favourite song on the album with a very soft a smooth sound. I like her voice as she sings in quite high key from her usual sound. It’s all about her walking away from a bad situation with her head up high knowing she’s right. It’s a definite song if your sad and feeling in need of a relax, as it’s very soouthing. 10/10 4) – MI CHICO LATINO – The best song on the album which was Geri’s first number one and a very happy sound. Some said that she was copying the latino starts such as Jennifer Lopes and Ricky Martin but Geri̵
7;s mother is Spanish and she speaks it quite fluently too. Brilliant rap in Spanish makes this song so lively as and her voice is good too. 10/10 5) – GOODNIGHT KISS – The first slow track and it sounds a lot like 1960’s sound with jazz music and piano’s. Not a brilliant track but vocals make it a really easy listening track. Definitely an album material song. 8/10 6) – BAG IT UP – A the third number one with the one of the best video’s Geri’s done. All about treating the man like a lady for a change and a very in your face track but another easy listener. A real jazzy meets pop sound with Geri’s husky talking voice, then into singing. The video was excellent! She is hovering and cleaning the house while her supposed to be husband watching TV and ordering her around. She makes him a drink in her own formula and it turns him into a man that does women things. She then makes a fortune from selling the product and calls it Girl Powder. Sort of keeping the girls power theme. 10/10 7) - SOMETIME – The song starts off as if you are in church with the organs and people sitting down. Geri really shows off her voice in that she sings with only the organ which is really quiet in the background. Then a choir joins her as it makes a lovely smooth and quiet song then!!!! into the beats and chimes, then into a really hard sound and back to the beats and chimes. A really diverse song which has shown Geri mature a lot from the Spice Girls. This could have easily been another single from this album. 9/10 8) – LET ME LOVE YOU – A brilliant rack which starts off with an Indian sound and an Indian singer. With the big drum beats it kicks off to be a real pop come latino, indian track. The song is all about how she is falling in love with someone and wants them to know how she feels. A very catchy chorus and can easily get you dancing. 9/10 9) – SOMEONE’S WA
TCHING OVER ME – This song is all about her father who past away when Geri wasn’t famous. It starts off with children playing in a school playground. Then into a smooth and very sad ballad about her father. With the deep meaning to this song Geri’s voice makes you feel sad when hearing the lyrics in the song. She should have tried for a Christmas number one with this track as it’s very suitable. 10/10 10) – YOU’RE IN A BUBBLE – This is probably the worst song on the album. I mean it is. She talks in the beginning which makes her sound like a right mong! The song just doesn’t suit the album and gives it a bad ending. It’s hard to listening to and very annoying. 4/10 Even thou it has one bad song the overall rating is really good. A fine album with some really catchy songs. Can’t wait for Geri’s new stuff as it’s probably going to be better than this by miles. Schizophonic is out now! Please leave any comments MAT
I only bought this album because it was £1.50 on a car boot sale and even then I think I was robbed! Every single one of the songs is totally bland, boring and unimaginative. I've heard nursery rhymes with more to recommend them than this rubbish. I used to respect Geri as an entertainer when she was with the Spice Girls, I believe that she was the heart and soul of the group and any interest I had in the Spice Girls left with Geri. However, as time goes on I'm getting more and more sick of her, she seems to have lost all of her personality. This album is a catalogue of snipes and underhanded comments coupled with several songs with lyrics whining about what a bad time she's having. Do I feel sorry for her? Do I heck as like, I wish somebody would just "lift her up" out of earshot so I don't have to listen to this self pitying garbage anymore. The lyrics are so simple that a five year old could have written better, the way that she insists that every line has to rhyme just drives me insane. The woman obviously knows more about nuclear physics than she does about writing songs. This album is utter tripe. I've been racking my brains for something positive to say about it and I really can't find anything at all. It tortured my CD player once and won't be making a second visit. I couldn't, in all honesty, recommend Schizophonic to my worst enemy. In fact, I'm going to give my copy to my 3 year old niece, she likes the Cartoons so she might not be too offended by this album!
Geri is of course the member of the Spice Girls that bailed out mid-way through one of their tours, this is her first album which was greatly influenced by George Michael. The track list: 1. Look At Me - 5/5 A brilliant fast upbeat song with a great chorus! 2. Lift Me Up - 4/5 Soulful and a classic. 3. Walkaway - 3/5 4. Mi Chic Latino - 5/5 Fast, so fast, and really catchy, I can speak Spanish now! 5. Goodnight Kiss - 2/5 Sounds more like the Spice Girl stuff 6. Bag it Up - 5/5 My favourite. 7. Sometime - 3/5 Starts off slow and then kicks into high gear! 8. Let Me Love You - 3/4 A really strang number, with Asian singers at the beginning. 9. Someone's Watching Over Me - 2/5 I don't like. 10. You're In A Bubble 4/5 A good one to end on. The only real problem with this great album is the lack of any duets, her best friends is George Michael! Please, that guy has more connections then there is in a run-down LA toilet... I'm told.
This is quite honestly the worst pile of tripe i've heard in a long time. Even my daughter who is 12, was given this rubbish for christmas, is a great Spice girls fan, and was devastated when Geri left, cannot stand this album. I even quite liked her myself before she became all saintly. If she had never been in the SG's, no-one would have even given this a second glance, makes a brilliant frizbee though!! I reckon for a singer she'd make a great cat repellent for the garden, all that screeching would drive them mad!! This quite frankly is DULL DULL DULL, so my advice is don't waste your money, buy loo roll instead, it's much softer and gentler for your bottom!!
Ginger was always my favourite Spice all through those early years of 96-98, and then she left. That was one of the saddest days of my life as I thought "Will I ever hear of her again?", but I remember, in her official leaving statement on May 25th, 1998, she said at the end those 3 immortal words "I'll Be Back!". This reassured me as I know someday she would return, and boy did she do just that with a BANG, a year later realesing her first solo single "Look At Me" in May 99. The first time I heard this song, I thought, "definate # 1!", but unfortunateley it was pipped at the post by a rubbish pathetic Boyzone song which sounded exactly like all their others, and theirs sold just 1,000 copies more than Geri's. I was very upset by this, but since then she has had 3 more singles, all of which have shot straight to the top of the charts, she she has most definately proved all the critics wrong. This album features all 4 of those great singles, "Look At Me", "Mi Chico Latino", "Lift Me Up" and "Bag It Up", along with 6 other great tunes. This album is very varied, as there are latin sounding songs, ballads, disco stompers, mellow songs, R+B Choons, and others which don't really fit in any particular genre!
