I am angry that the Fugees split up for one reason: If they kept up with the music they were making, they would have been great. The lyrics they had were just genius. They would have raised the eyebrows of the rap industry. They were great rappers and they had great lyrics. They were like the Rage Against The Machine of the rap world. With lyrics about Rastafarianism, prejudice, and mostly social injustice in the rap world, these rappers were great because they were (for all I know) the only ones who had the balls to bring up these kind of issues. Now they were good rappers. But they weren't the best. I like fast rapping. Rapping where you can hardly keep up with what the singer's rappin' about. That's my favourite kind of rap. Now I'm not even that much of a rap fan, but the Fugees were the best that I've come across. Now Eminem has some controversial lyrics, but he seems too angry about what he sings about. The Fugees weren't as flashy as Eminem was, and their lyrics weren't as blunt. And that's good. Lyrics that say, Do This, Do That, I really hate. They're just trying to tell you to do stuff that you don't want to do and stuff that is morally wrong. I really hate about rap music how they talk about sex like it's nothing and violence and how drugs are great. I don't believe that the artists realize just how much of an image they're sending to kids. I know too many people that take rap lyrics like they're the bible. They walk around pimping and thinking they're 'Tha Shyeet.' They don't realize that the lifestyle they lead makes them easy targets for police. They (the cops) see the Fubu shirt and think that they're high or on some kind of drug. So the Fugees do have some violent lyrics, some druggy lyrics, and some sex lyrics. But it's a very small percentage of the lyrics. Hey, you've got to do 'the popular dance'
. You have to do what is popular. Act like a monkey if you need to. They just write and produce what they think will sell. Anyway, this CD is a good example of good rap. Too much of rap today isn't good. Anyways, this is a great CD and it's even good for young listeners. If you like this opinion, say so. Give me a 'very useful'. If you don't, just write a commentary. Thank you for reading my opinion. Go ahead and look at my profile and see if there are any more opinions that you like. Or don't like. Again thank you. Jon Hoover
