Many people say that Slayer's finest hour was the album above. Where 'Reign in Blood' may have been a great, heavy collection, 'Seasons in the Abyss' has the edge on great song-writing. The best song on the album is the outstanding opener, 'War Ensemble', a powerful piece with layers of guitar well woven into a fast-paced, demonic soundscape. Other brilliant tracks include the fantastic 'Skeletons of Society' a slow, anthemic death march and the powerful title track with the haunting vocals: 'CLOSE YOUR EYES AND FORGET YOUR NAME STEP OUTSIDE YOURSELF AND LET YOUR THOUGHTS DRAIN, AS YOU GO INSANE' ... This is, IMO, Slayer's best album and makes my top 10 of all time best heavy metal albums. Why this one and not "Reign In Blood" or "South of Heaven"? Because this album is the perfect blend of heavy riffs, blazing solos, songwriting structure and production quality just not seen in their prior efforts. While "South Of Heaven" has many good songs and shows maturity and promise, it just doesn't measure up to "Seasons In The Abyss" in sheer depth. Also, I understand that the "Reign In Blood" appeals to many hard core Slayer fans for its aggressive hard-core approach, but other than the title song, it just sounds ... Read the complete review

Oh what a record. It brings back so many memories hearing an album like this after so many years, and still finding it terrific. Actually nowadays Slayer is one of the few bands that I was listening in my era of metal devotions that not only I still can listen to, but furthermore make me realize that music is music after all. It can be good, it can be bad. End of the story. Returning to our subject now, Slayer is considered by every metalhead that respects himself one of the pioneers of the thrash metal movement, that took place in the early 80's, along with bands like Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth.
