Seb Fontaine's Saterday night show on Radio 1 is a real must for any fan of dance music. Broadcast between Judge Jules and Westwood (is that how you spell it?!), the show really stands out. The quality of the mixing and DJing is great, but it is the music that makes it really stand out... He plays some of the best house come trance music known to man, including the stuff that some DJs seem to neglect, as it is a bit different. Finally, he manages not to be annoying or smug, in the way that so many DJs are. The show is a must and is on 7-9 every Saterday. You can get more information at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/fontaine.shtml Unfortunately, I can't say whether he's good live, I've never seen him.

        Very helpful

Seb Fontaine is just one DJ that really seems to annoy me! I'll put it simply; he's just not very good. Add to that the fact that he has "sold out" as much as anyone I can probably think of right now. But the thing that bugs me most is his disloyalty to a genre of music, simply "jumping on the bandwagon" to follow the latest trends; basically where ever the big money is. Take the example of last year - summer '99. This was really the year when trance kicked off in a big way - and yes, although all the commercial chart rubbish threatened it from day one - eg. ATB's awful follow-ups from the once-great "9pm", trance in '99 is what Garage or Hard House has become in 2000. And so, Seb, playing trance (a very commercial-type style, is raking it in as he and other DJ's are fast becoming megastars. But, as the music develops and trance, seemingly fades out a bit, he "jumps ship" and starts playing something else as soon as the slightest hint of trance's popularity declining starts to show. He has no real love for any kind of dance music in particular as far as I can tell, and is just obsessed by the money. I mean, maybe I could forgive him if he actually was a hal-decent DJ. But he isn't, and so I'll just keep my attentions on trance-faithfuls such as Sasha or Tiesto and leave Fontaine and to a degree, Oakenfold to do whatever they want.
