How fickle is the road we call life. Imagine the many things that could have been or the things that have been and shouldn’t have in your own little existence. Take that decision of yours to buy the red jumper instead of the black. Had you gone for black then that special person you met once, very briefly, may have taken a wee bit of a shine to you and whisked you off on their yacht or something. Instead you chose red and they laughed at you spitting in your face as they raced past in their black Prada suit to the latest gallery opening. Imagine if Oasis been told to sod off when they pulled that stunt back in King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut or even more ... Read the complete review

Well I was looking for an idea for my next op whilst driving back from Southampton today and as I passed through Winnersh it struck me. Why not write about the best thing to ever come out of Winnersh apart from the road ;). Yes that’s right I’m going to go do my Op on the Cooper Temple Clause’s (CTC from here on) debut album See Through This And Leave. The six piece from Berkshire have made huge inroads on the musical world with an alternative edgy sound. ok so this is who they are and what they do: Tom Bellamy: Guitar, Synths, Keys, Samples, Vox, Percussion, Melodica, Trumpet Daniel Fisher: Guitar, Lyrics, Vox, Bass Benedict ... ...Or at least thats what an exxagerating indie boy mate of mine told me once. And though my lungs remain intact, my quality of hearing has gone significantly downhill due to playing this album full blast and pissing the neighbours off large style. This is another of those bands I had heard great things about for, like, ever but yet to hear. Perhaps I have lost all faith in the bands NME promotes after the whole StarSailor thing (don't even get me started). Although that faith was regained slightly by the whole strokes, white stripes, hives, vines, BRMC thing. This (not very well known) Reading based band is probably best known for the lads crazy ... While every journo and his dog has been pre-occupying themselves purchasing their Strokes shirts and licking anything that's red & white, these guys have been sneaking through the shadows readying musical moves most magical. Innovation, revelation, non-duplication, aviation, train station. This album has been a long time coming, and it sounds like it's gonna explode at any moment. Don't cut the red & white wires. Album starts with live set opener Did You Miss Me. Bassy, mean, fuelled by something I suspect to be twisted, this one is magical before just breaking into dirty shrapnel shouty screaming mentalist. Its superb. Jumps straight into Film Maker ... Read the complete review

Once upon a time the Cooper Temple Clause goaded us with "Lets Kill Music", nowadays you're more likely to see them swanning the corridors of TOTP or CD:UK after a surprise top twenty hit with the recent single "Film-Maker". It was a grand statement up there with "IPC Sub Editors Control Our Youth" by Clinic but it always was a better T-shirt slogan than an actual record. Individual members of the CTC have previously played in bands that vary from sounding like epic U2 to country influenced blues which explains why "See Through This And Leave" is such an eclectic album. While the naivety of those early few bands may ... Read the complete review
