Booker T and the MGs. Hayes made his name as a composer and musician throughout the 1960s until he launched his solo career in 1967 with "Presenting Isaac Hayes". The album flopped but undeterred he returned to the studio for another try. I bought Hot Buttered Soul in a second hand CD shop for a number of reasons. I knew Hayes as Chef and as the composer to the theme from Shaft - one of the funkiest riffs ever! What caught my eye about this album in particular was the striking cover; a close up of Hayes' bald head adorned by a pair of shades and framed by a thick, rope-like gold chain is the epitomy of cool.
