I am a huge fan of Timbaland, although more to do with his production skills, rather than his own solo work, although I was a fan of his old albums he used to make with the talented rapper Magoo. They had a real chemistry together and you can compare them to the duo of Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg.
So shock value was released in 2007, and is really the first big commercial solo album he has done since he has really taken off and become a world wide producer for many of the biggest artists. This is his second album without Magoo, although he does feature on one of the tracks, which definitely rolls back the years.
There are a number of artists that feature on this album, including Justin Timberlake, 50 cent, Nelly Furtado, Keri Hilson, Dr Dre, Elton John and many more. This just goes to show the impact and respect that Timbaland has. Not many artists would be able to get these sort of artists and that volume to appear on his album. However saying all this, it is Timbalands album so we dont want to just hear other artists, and want some of Timbaland himself.
To be honest after first listening I wasnt that impressed with the album, but its only when I came back to it a few months later that I really appreciated and enjoyed the album. Of course with Timbaland you are guaranteed the club bangers, and also their are those tracks that are a bit different that only Timbaland can create.
The most popular track from the album seems to be Apologize which One Republic originally created, and this remixed version isnt that much different from the original, as One Republic still provide the vocals and a lot of the instruments but Timbaland just adds his magic touch with a RnB beat and of course adds his name and all of a sudden One Republic are commercially well known.
For me this album was also the birth of Keri Hilson as she features on a few of the tracks and one of them was the huge summer hit 'The Way I Are'. She is awesome in this track and we learn about her amazing singing voice and vocal range. She also features in the cool track miscommunication. Since this album Keri Hilson has gone on to release her own solo debut album, which you can find in my past reviews. It has proved a commercial success.
Before I said Timbaland is a little bit different and this can be shown with the Elton John featuring track '2 man show', and Throw It On Me which features The Hives. Not many RnB producers would work with rock bands and be able to pull it off so effectivelly, but then Timbaland isnt just a normal producer, he is a genious in terms of creating original music.
This album wont be remembered as a great album in the future, however you must at least check it out on Spotify if you don't want to pay for it, as it is a very enjoyable album and will provide something a bit different to your ears. Shock Value 2 should be coming out soon and hopefully Timbaland can learn from his minor mistakes and take music onto an even more higher level.
If carlsberg made album's then they would most definately create Timbaland's Shock Value...
For only 5-6 pound you can purchase this R&B/hip hop/Dance album, with tracks including Elton John,Justin timberlake, Nelly furtado, keri hilson,Nicole from the pussycat dolls and many more top artists. Their is a song on here for a range of music fans from rock to pop..
The successful mix master genius Timbaland has targeted a range of audiences in this album which has a staggering 19 songs which compared to many artists albums is alot;
You usually pay £10-£15 for ten songs.. whereas for £6 you are paying about 11p a song which is great value for money..
Timbaland is regarded very highly in the musical world and i believe that any fan of any music genre will find somthing within this album.
i am not a big fan of some rocky songs but i listened to this album twice and enjoyed a track featuring fallout boy, when stripping a house and found it very easy to listen and to work to...
Go out and Grab a bargain

Now I don't know that much about Rap or R&B but I did hear a few of Timbalands songs on the radio and as I liked them I got his album for my birthday the other day.
The songs that have had a high profile release I loved and I have loved having them on this album, the problem is that the other unreleased songs aren't actually that good! What I think is even worse is that the songs that have no collaboration (are just Timbaland) are real stinkers!
I do rate Timbaland as a producer, he has also discovered some real talents but by himself I just dont think he can cut it. This is why he has to collaborate with several high profile artists to get his work noticed.
He also seems to be part of the 'Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, Pharell Williams' crew who seem to do some good music, some rubbish but seem to rake in the dollars by just being themseves (good work if you can get it!) and appearing on some TV shows, doing a few gigs and generally pretending to be gangsters. If you meet these people in real life (and they stop the cerade for a few moments) I bet they are just normal blokes!
Overall, good for the popular songs, but good job it was a present becasue I would have been disappointed if I had spent my own money on it!
Timbaland is otherwise known as Tim Mosley and has a fine reputation for being one of the greatest producers in music. For those of you who don't know his history, he started producing when Missy Elliot heard his mixes and decided to work with him on her material. He also worked with the group Jodeci on their 1995 album The Show, The After-Party, The Hotel.
His stock as a music producer was quickly rising when in 1996 he produced Ginuwine's debut album Ginuwine...the Bachelor. The album gained both commercial and critical success. Since then he has worked with a variety of artists and is stock as a producer keeps rising and rising for his uniqueness.
In 2007 he released his first album as an artist and the album featured a number of collaborations from some of the best known current artists including Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado and Fall Out Boy and even Elton John. Here is my review of his first album entitled Shock Value.
1. Oh Timbaland
This contains a piano intro which is taken from a Nina Simone track. This track then features a thumpind drum beat and some funky guitar licks. This is a great intro to the album and gives a taster of what is to come from the rest of the album.
2. Give it to me
This starts with "is it going, is it going, i don't know" This has a thumping beat that knocks through the track, this track features vocals from Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado and Timbaland raps on the track. This track has a great flow and is great for dancing to in the club.
This track features Justin Timberlake and is a funky club track with a very fast beat which makes the track flow brilliantly. A great track to dance to with has a catchy feel to it. It really works well and is one of the quickest on the album.
4. The Way I Are
Now I know it is really really bad grammar but that doesnt matter as much when it is such a catchy track like this one. Introducing Keri Hilson this track was one of the tracks of 2007. A very flowing track that was huge in clubs around the world.
This track features Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, and Justin Timberlake and is one of the most original tracks. A great vocoder effect which sounds like Justin Timberlake is laughing. This track shows just how good a recording this album is. The beats sound amazing.
6. Come and get me
This is probably the weakest track on the album, it features 50 Cent and Tony Yayo. Although it has a great beat it just doesnt have the same spark that the best tracks on Shock Value have.
7. Kill Yourself
This track is to all the dissers. A bold track which has an amazing melody with piano and a seismic bassline that is so infectious. A really well worked track that is one of the best on the album. This track has A great flow.
This has a thumping beat and some sweet aha aha female vocals. This track features Hip Hop artist Magoo. It is a nice track but doesnt have that instant spark that some of these tracks do. A very good track though.
This features Money and is a brilliant ballad with a great beat and some great backing music. Money has a nice voice and she like Keri Hilson has a future in the music industry. She has a sweet voice.
This is totally different to the last track and shows the depth to the album. This track features Keri Hilson and Pussycat Doll Nicole Sherzinger. This has an amazing beat and some great backing loops. This track is one that I can't stop listening to and is a real toe tapper. Great.
This track features Keri Hilson and Sebastian, who??? and Is a nice slower track with some nice effects and loops. This track loses a bit from Sebastian as Keri Hilson is a good singer. A good track though all round.
This is a lovely little track with some softer beats and some great loops. This track features Amar and Jim Beanz and really shows that you can put music with anything and it can work. Indian vocals with a funky hip hop beat. A very different track that really works a treat.
13. Throw it on me
I hate The Hives but this is an ok song. It is a fusion of Timbaland Hip Hop and The Hives whatever they are. It suprisingly works well. Not as great as the other tracks though. Probably one of the weakest tracks on the album.
This features she wants revenge who are an American "Dark wave" band who have strange voices. This works suprisingly well but is not on a par with the best despite the funky guitar and great beat.
15. One and only
This track features Fall Out Boy and even though I am not a fan of them this really is a good track, The drum beat sounds amazing and Pete Wentz does some nice bits on the bass. A very catchy flowing track that is a great fusion.
This was the first single from the album and features newcomers One Republic. This was a massive single and has a great uplifting keyboard loop and some great backing sounds. starts with a dark piano melody and then develops into a great ballad about regret.
17. 2 Man show
This features Elton John and you would be fooled for thinking this wouldnt work. A great collaboration with Elton's great piano playing and Timbalands great beats. some great backing vocals. A wonderful effort all round. This really works so well.
This track features Keri Hilson and Attitude and is an international bonus track. This has a big beat and some nice background sounds and lovely piano. This is a great bonus track that stays with the albums mood.
19. Come Around
This is the final track and is a UK Only bonus track, It features M.I.A and has a great beat and some funky guitar. Not as good as Hello and probably the weakest on the album as it features annoying London rapping.
This is a great album that only has one bad moment that is the addition of M.I.A, what is it that makes females from London unable to rap?? I don't know but this doesnt work. A great album that is so superbly well recorded.
Shock Value is the latest album to be released in the UK by super producer Timbaland. The album contains a mixture of Hip-Hop and R&B tunes and has a total of 19 tracks. Every Track is individual an there is a lot of creativity on this album and this is down to there being over 20 different artists featured on this album. One of the problems with this is that the album doesn't really flow. However there is a number of great tracks that are on this album as well as a few bits of garbage.
This is the opening track and it is a good intriguing track that makes you want to listen to the rest of the album.
Give It To Me:
This is the second track on the album and was released as a single, It is a really good modern day R&B song that will appeal to many people as it features Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake.
The Way I Are:
Very similar to Give It To Me although it has a bit more of a hip hop vibe with the artist D.O.E. included on the track
Also on top of this tracks 7-11 are very good and flow quite well and this is probably the best part of the album for me.
7 Kill Yourself
10 Scream (Released as a single)
After this there is a very odd song that features fall out boy, as you can guess it doesn't really work.
Then the last real good track on the album is Apologize which features up and coming artists OneRepublic, the track was a huge single and is also featured on there own album.
Overall Timbaland's work is good although there is a few duff tracks but thats probably because the album features so many different artists and has so many tracks.
This album certainly offers value for money as it contains many tracks and this album is probably suitable for you if your favourite genre is R&B, however the album is also suitable for others as it has quite an eclectic mix of tracks.
TIMBALAND! In my eyes one of the greatest/most talented producers of all time. Every artist he works with brings out his best qualities as he brings out theirs. it is fascinating how a man can have such power over a song and make you listen to it multiple times OVER and OVER again.

There are many songs on here that everyone will know like "apologise" which was played on pretty much every music channel. "way i are" by Timbaland & Keri Hilson which was also very commercial and was a song that was expected to make a scene it was so catchy. there are also some experiments on there, he produced the Hives and made a really modern and interesting cartoon video!
A real mix of sound! A worthwhile buy!
happy listening ****
The great thing about this album and Timbaland's albums in general, is that there's a great mix of sounds; it's not an album that you get bored of easily.
You have Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Dr Dre, Missy Elliot, D.O.E, 50 Cent, Sebastien, Attitude, Money, Amar, One republic and even Elton John!
The album is seriously one of the best I've ever listened too - it has Indian music, classical, rap and hip-hop.
I can not go on enough about the variety of this album. It's definitely Timbaland's best effort so far and as of August 9, 2007, Shock Value has sold 514,300 copies in the U.S. and is at #26 on the charts.
My personal favourites are "Give it to me" ft JT and Nelly Furtado, and the immensely popular "The way I are" ft D.O.E and kerri Hilson as well as "One and only" ft FallOutBoy and "Apologize" ft One Republic.
The one with elton john has to be one of the best tunes ever, but it is let down by a lack of lyrical prowess.
I'd rate this as a 4.5, but as far as I can tell it only goes in whole numbers, so unfortunately a 4.
