Souljacker - Eels

Premium Review Eels return and this time there a bit more happy! (261 words)

It hasn't been long since the last Eels album Dasies Of The Galaxy, Which although was more upbeat than the previous Electro Shock Blues album it was still quite down tempo. The Eels are back with there most happy sounding album yet. From the first listen I was not as instantly impressed as I was when I first heard there other albums, but its more of a grower. I do like the album, but can't help but feel a bit disappointed by it. There are one or two stand out tracks like the superb Fresh Feeling which samples the strings from Selective Memory (a song on the last album) which is Eels at there best and really should be the next single. Other tracks though ...

dark, moody tunes, Eels have created an absolute gem of an album. I'm sure most of you will have heard their smash hit from this album, Novacaine for the Soul. It is undoubtedly the best song on the album, and possibly one of the best songs of the '90s. Other highlights include their second smash hit Susan's House, ...

Daisies Of The Galaxy - Eels

Premium Review Goddamn right it's a good album (273 words)
by cswann - written on 06/09/00 (Very useful, 33 readings)
Rating:

a strange mix of styles: folksy, bar room blues, jazzy rhythms, even music that sounds like a theme tune from children's TV. But overall, it's so distinctive, that the Eels only really sound like the Eels, to me. "The sound of fear" reminds me of Nirvana or the Pixies, but I can't really say why; "Grace Kelly blues" has a Tom Waits style brass section, and there's a kind of They Might Be Giants feel to the whole thing, but I think that's just because it's so varied. And it's very American - if you know what I mean. There are some excellent songs on here, with "Flyswatter" and "I like birds" among ...

An album with excellent lyrical and musical content

POSITIVE ENERGY SIMILIAR TO MOST INDIE ROCK BANDS

Good title track, interesting and questioning lyrics A little too repetive at times, brief.

Fuses rock, metal, jazz and latin music into eight songs of breath-taking madness Requires work. Not for the musically faint hearted.

An excellent 34 minutes of punk rock music; energetic and truly entertaining. The music is slower than with the bands previous album; some may prefer the bands faster style.

Excellent and relaxing album Couple of weaker tracks
