Premium Review Showbiz - Muse: A debut of a band with huge things to come (204 words)
by - written on 04/11/09 (Useful, 3 readings)
Rating:

Muse's first album burst onto the scene filled with teenage angst and torment. It gave the band a brilliant launchpad to the scene, with a lot of help from one Steve Lamacq. Although the band are unrecognisable to these songs these days, this is essential to see the bare bones of Muse's potential. Unfortunately, the album often sounds like it ...  Read the complete review

Muse have been around for a good few years now & I was so impressed after seeing them live for the first time recently, I decided to check out some of their back catalogue of music. One of my favourite albums from their collection was their 2006 debut, Showbiz. This probably isn't their most commercially accessible album, but that's ...  Read the complete review

Muse are now massive rock stars, but their first album Showbiz, is obviously where it all began, and whilst it's not as refined as their best album, Origins of Symmetry, it's still a cracking debut with some of their very best tracks. At the time of its release, Muse were very obscure, and it wasn't until the release of OoS that they landed on ...  Read the complete review

I am slightly biased when it comes to Muse but I'll try and sort out which tracks are better off this album: (1) Sunburn, what a brilliant debut song for a debut album. The piano intro works really well. Matt's vocals are great as always and his guitar work is also great. (2) Muscle Museum, this is my favourite song off this ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Showbiz - Muse
by - written on 08/04/09
Rating:

Classic album from Muse, this came out and they were immediately compared with Radiohead which I think is a lazy and misleading comparison, simply because Matt Bellamy sounds a bit like Thom Yorke on some notes and they like soaring anthems, its not correct and this album proved it.

Muse are definetily one of my favourite Brirtish bands and unfortunately are not as highly rated as they should be. However they are quite altnerative rock and I imagine therefore not too everyones taste. I was contemplating doing one of those reviews where the reviewer goes through each track and states what he or she likes about that ...  Read the complete review

This album from Muse, a rock trio from Devon then signed to Mushroom records, is what true alternative rock is about, forget all these new bands that you hear once. This album is Muse's first and is simpler than there other experimental albums but still raw and exciting. One song which is amazing and just grows and grows with an amazing riff is ...  Read the complete review

Just like a fine brie Showbiz matures with age, becoming better and better with each subsequent listen, and I'm glad MUSE still referred back to it in their recent Wembley Stadium (UK) shows. It's an understatement to say that this wipes the floor with any of the current modern day crop of acts and historically, I'm sure this will ...  Read the complete review

Continually voted best British Band and Best Live Act it's hard to believe that Muse ever were an unnown entity , but that was the case back when they released their very first album "Showbiz" in 1999 . I'd never heard of them at the time, but my cousin who has a really weird taste in music recommended them, I wasn't sure at first, but ...  Read the complete review

This is the first album produced by English trio Muse, it was also the first album I first came across by them several years ago. Muse were like no other band I had ever heard and this album quickly became a firm favourite of mine. Songs like muscle museum and showbiz are absolutly amazing and remain favourites of mine despite my general change in ...  Read the complete review

So although I have an impending op on the Sugababes over my head I decided I couldn?t be bothered to do it tonight and that I would leave it and do this Muse one instead. This is the debut album Showbiz released in 1999 onto an unsuspecting market and almost straight away the tag ?The New Radiohead? was attached to the band. However Bellamy, ...  Read the complete review

For some reason, Muse seem to be neglected in the popular music world. For the people who do know who they are, they are a pretty cool band who can do no wrong. If you haven't heard of them, then it is utterly frustrating to try and tell someone about them. I'm forever exclaiming to my friends, "Surely you know 'Plug in ...  Read the complete review

I first heard of Muse only about a year ago, when a very good friend of mine let me borrow a cd of ColdPlay with some of Muse’s finest songs recorded on the end. Cheers Saint Gertrude! You’re responsible for me now being a huge fan of Muse… I’ve never got round to seeing them live, but I’d love to go to one ...  Read the complete review

Showbiz - Muse: Best album ever! - Muse (showbiz) (234 words)

I saw Muse supporting Skunk Anansie, and then again on their own headline tour, and it convinced me of the fact that the band are destined for musical greatness. Showbiz is a wonderful collage of raw emotion, subtlety and complexity. The vocal stylings of Bellamy are probably the most striking thing about the group on first listening, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Can you FEEL the Angst? (479 words)

Matt Belamy has always been a bit of a weirdo. From an early age he communed with the dead, picking voices out of the air with a ouija board. This novel hobby obviously set him apart from his peers. But not from drummer Dom, who, according to a vicious rumour, “saw a ghost when he was eight and pooed his pants” (Select magazine). ...  Read the complete review

“The future of intelligent guitar music” - Melody Maker’s opinion on Muse’s debut album Showbiz, I cannot agree more. Excellent songs but too similar too each other (336 words)

Muscle Museum, which is one of my Top Ten songs of all time, promised loads for this album. I first got into Muse after hearing Unintended on TOTP when it was a minor hit in Summer 2000. I loved it. It was quite a light song, (which is untypical for Muse) but the falsetto was wonderful, and ten times better than Thom Yorke, Chris Martin et al. ...  Read the complete review

When you first hear the single 'uno', the first thing that you will notice is that Matt Bellamy's voice sounds like Thom Yorke. In fact I actaully thought it was Radiohead, but then after hearing it I didn't want to kill myslef, so it couldn't have been Radiohead. It was Muse- and once you heard their fabulous debut album, you ...  Read the complete review

It's about time that we saw a few decent rock bands in the UK. For too long we've had unimaginative crap like Oasis, Stereophonics and Travis clogging up the charts, while bands like Muse are still not getting the respect they deserve. Muse have been fairly popular across the Atlantic for some time, now, and with releases such as ...  Read the complete review
