Advantages: Good songs, have first CD of possible awesome band
Disadvantages: really expensive, have somone burn it for you
When I picked up a copy of Disturbed's The Sickness, the first CD by this relatively unfamiliar band to me, I was somewhat pessimistic. But what I found was a real treat, a classic CD with some great songs. Now, let me say this, Disturbed is not metal, so metal fans may not like it. They are more hard rock, along the lines of Korn and Coal Chamber or Mudvayne, what you guys might call nu-metal. But let me break down this CD for you guys, song by song, to show you how much it kicks ass.
Voices - This is probably the best song on the CD. It is not heavy at all, but David Draiman delivers his lyrics in a rap sort of way and the chorus is awesome. It is not great, but you just feel your head start moving when you listen to this. They just did some excellent songwriting in all of their songs.
5/5
The Game - This song just kicks my ass. It is really heavy and the chorus is probably one of the best of all times. The negative of this song is the verses, which are kind of boring.
4/5
Stupify - This is the song that everyone will tell you is the best song on the album. But I greatly disagree. While it is a good song, it is definitely not the best song on the CD. I was very much let down by this song, because it is quite dull.
2/5
Down with the sickness - This is the first song that I heard of Disturbed. It is a good song, but after a couple of listens, you are quite bored of it.
3/5
Violence Fetish - This song is alright, and is along the lines of Stupify in that it is not that great.
2/5
FEAR - This song is awesome. It is really heavy and the chorus is great. David Draiman is just one of the best vocalists out there right now, and it shows in this song.
5/5
Numb - This is really a great song. Disturbed slows it down in this song, but they do it very good and this song is just awesome.
5/5
Want - This is not a very good song, and shows some of the albums weaknesses. Draiman repeats like the same phrase throughout the whole song, and it just doesn't impress me that much.
1/5
Conflict - This song once again redeems Disturbed from the previous song. This song really rocks, especially when Draiman yells out "ENEMY!"
5/5
Shout2000 - This song is really good, too, and revives a classic song.
4/5
Droppin' Plates - A lot of people like this song, but I think it is just alright, and doesn't impress me very much.
2/5
Meaning of Life - This song gives the album a good conclusion and gives good hopes of the next album from Disturbed.
4/5
Overall, this is quite a good album from a young band. They wrote out some pretty clever songs with some catchy tunes.
42/60 = 70% C- by the songs, but I raise the grade to a B because they are young and the a lot of those five star songs are really, really good. So, I give the CD four and a half stars.

- 05/06/02 Better, but still light on information. "Heavy" and "not heavy" aren't really terribly informative. Relative to each other, fine, but relative to Metallica or S Club 7? You see the problem... |
