Classic, must-have Prince album, many good songs (Sign 'o' The Times - Prince - Soundtrack)
Member Name: bluerose81
Advantages: No real filler tracks, they all have a certain likeable quality Disadvantages: None. I remember the excitement over Prince in 1987, the Sign o the Times film was on at the Dominion Theatre in Tottenham Court Road, a huge billboard poster of Prince adorning the roof, with a massive queue outside. He was huge at the time and, judging from the concert footage released on video, it was an amazing live tour. This double album still holds up after all these years as it is full of quality tracks that suit every mood. The title track was the first single released from the album, a mournful 'judgement day is coming' type lament on the ills in the world from AIDS to drug addiction, with an amazing stripped-down beat. This track is then followed by the uplifting 'Play in the Sunshine', the fun and funky 'Housequake' ("Green eggs and ham" he yells irrelevantly), slow love songs, psychadelia such as 'Starfish and Coffee', beautiful and strange songs such as 'If I was your Girlfriend', and jams good enough for a knees-up such as 'It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night' (grown men have spontaneously burst into dance when I have had that on at my house). The album for the most part is not live by the way. It's a classic - Prince at his finest. Summary: Innovative, psychadelic, etheral & makes you wanna dance |
