      Black Majesty's second album (2005).

Black Majesty's second album is more consistent than the first, which is perhaps its main drawback, as many songs sound more or less identical to each other. The whole thing is saved by an improved performance all round, from singer John Cavaliere's even more impressive wails to faultless guitar duo Steve Janevski and Hanny Mohammed and drummer Pavel Konvalinka, all delivering a tight and perfect melodic power metal performance that's only hampered by a little lack of creativity in the song structures.

It's the guitar solos in particular that really make this album stand out, and automatically add at least one whole star to its rating. They're completely fantastic, based in the classic tag-team style of bands like Iron Maiden, and the second half of the songs are always worth waiting for, to be treated to this energetic performance. It's disappointing to see the progressive tendencies vanish with this release, as the only song to really try anything new is the cover song 'Six Ribbons' with its acoustic opening and folky leads in the style of Blind Guardian, but the band seems to have found its preferred sound which includes a more accessible side through Cavaliere's vocals, here even more harmonised than before.
