Advantages: very talented, great voice
Disadvantages: some songs too slow
Kelly Rowland has finally decided to release a debut album, not because Destiny's Child have split up because they haven't but because they all wanted to do solo projects and release albums so that their fans and others could hear their own style of music. Michelle released a gospel album, Beyonce has not yet released an album but has done a song on her own and will be releasing an album soon. Kelly has done more of an r'n'b album which is really good and she has been the most successful so far with her album doing well in the album charts and her single Stole getting into the top three and staying in the top five for weeks. She seems like such a friendly caring person and before releasing Stole she was asked to do a duet with Nelly the famous rapper which was also a huge success and it got very high too. TRACKLISTING _____________ 1.Stole 2.Dilemma 3.Haven't Told You 4.Can't Nobody 5.Love/Hate 6.Simply Deep 7.(Love Lives In) Strange Places 8.Obsession 9.Heaven 10.Past 12 11.Everytime You Walk Out That Door 12.Train On A Track 13.Beyond Imagination 14.Make U Wanna Stay 15.No Coincidence 1.STOLE-Her first single from the album which she did the singing alone. Dilemma was the first song released from this album but this is the first time we really got to hear her own style of music and her own talent. I think this was the perfect song to release to get people to hear her talent, when I first heard this song I instantly liked it. In the video it is about many people just living their lives, either being bullied or being involved in trouble and then either getting killed and their lives being Stole. The boy at the start of the video is just getting bullied but he is smart and yet he commits suicide. This is a very relaxed song with a very slow calm mood. Kelly has a very strong voice in this song which you don't really get to hear as much in a group becaus
e she doesn't get a lot of the stronger parts to sing. The lyrics in this song are quite strange at some parts and I know a lot of people have been confused but they are all really nice. I am sure Kelly wrote the whole album, she is very talented and has always been my favourite Destiny's Child member. "Mary's got the same size hands as Marilyn Monroe she put her fingers in the imprints at Manns Chinese Theater Show," this is what I think the words are from listening and if I am right then the words are a bit odd but they fit and then she sings about how she could have been a movie star but couldn't because her life was stole'. A tragic song and she ends it off in a peaceful tone with her voice gently ending the song but still sounding strong, she sings 'we were hear altogether yesterday' and has tears in her eyes in the video because it can never be the same. I think it's a great song for showing how lives can end because of some bullies or getting into trouble a good example to show people to watch themselves or to stop bullying. 2.DILEMMA-Her duet with Kelly which I used to like but now I have had enough of. I will still listen to this song though it's a nice song but the line everyone has a joke about is 'Even when I'm with my boo' because everyone thought boo was a strange thing to say but anyway, moving on. The music is the same throughout the song and it works well but the only annoying thing is the oh noise being sang in the background, I am not the only person to be irritated by this. This song is about Kelly moving in beside Nelly and she always thinks about him but he knows she already has a boyfriend and she has a son so nothing can happen even though they are both crazy about each other. This song got people talking about if they really were going out or not but I am sure they weren't because stories are always made when a male and female singer do a duet. Tey both see each other an
d are friends I think but they just can't go out. The singing works well with Nelly's rapping and he is more of a singer in this song too. I like her voice in the chorus it's really nice, I like her singing voice the way she doesn't put a lot of effort in her singing but it still sounds powerful. 3.HAVEN'T TOLD YOU-A nice slower song, beginning with a guitar playing softly in the background. Kelly's voice is very gently in this song and it sounds really nice with the music. A nice calm rhythm and it sounds a bit happier at the chorus and a bit higher in sound. This song is about her telling someone her fellings how she loves them and that since they know her so well they should know this. The words are really nice and if these are personal the words are expressed in a nicer way. By the end it gets a lot louder and lots of build ups then stops so her vocals can be shown more. Her voice is strong in this song where it needs to be and she controls it very well. The words are really nice in this song, such as "time for the revealing and I will give you something too a love from me to you ", I like the way the words have been put instead of the usual way in a simple way, she has written it in a more personal style. A lovely song and if you are buying it only having heard the singles a great song that you haven't heard before and I know when I heard it with such beautiful lyrics and a voice to match that I didn't regret spending my money on Kelly's CD. 4.CAN'T NOBODY-This begins very abruptly and this is a good thing because this is a definite song for a dance when you go out or at home. Upbeat, great beat and she changes her singing style for this song to match it better. I like the way she can change her singing style to fit the music so that nothing sounds wrong. A very catchy chorus with quick words and then a longer dragging word at the end of the line. Her voice sounds higher in this song and it ha
s a really good sound and a very quick rhythm to the music. The music is very loud and it's hard to recognise it's Kelly sining but at some parts her voice becomes familiar and she makes it her own. This song is about a partner threatning to leave but she is telling them not to because there is no one like her and once they leave they can't come back and there will be no more her or anything else. She has made a mistake but she tells him how she is the only one who can be her and there isn't anyone who could be what she is or do anything like the way she does things. It sounds repetitive but I think this song is more for the music and the chorus because they stand out and it's one of my favourites and a great upbeat song of the album which should be a future single because it is a song that sticks out above the rest. 5.LOVE/HATE-This begins with an echo of Kelly's voice and it sounding different and then the music begins and then the singing begins properly. The rhythm is inbetween and the beat is good, more of an r''n'b sounding song, repetitive at the chorus and the singing stronger there though. I think this has a strange sound to it, not so much strange maybe more different but I like it. She has backing singers when she is singing and she sounds really good in this song. I don't think everyone would like this song, it is much more different from Stole but mid tempo and a song you listen to while getting ready to go out, could also be a song for relaxing. This is one of the shorter songs on the album just barely lasting over three minutes but it's not about the length it's about the quality of the songs, if this song had gone on any longer the chorus would have gotten too annoying but it is just perfect. This song contradicts itself because she is putting a positive thing about the person then a line after saying a negative thing and saying how she loves to hate the boy but loves to love him at the same t
ime. In the end she decides to leave him because he isn't worth it and he is getting her stressed out, a good idea for a song and it is written in a way which makes it work. 6.SIMPLY DEEP-This song features Beyonce's sister Solange Knowles who we haven't heard singing before and I heard she was meant to be bringing out her own album. This song doesn't have a lot of music in the first verse but Solange and Kelly harmonise very well together and it gives a really nice sound. This is the song the album was titled from and it is a good title for the album. A slow song very releaxed with the soft blending of their voices, at the chorus the music is louder. The guitar is played faster and the singing rises in volume and the music speeds up then goes back to normal. Solange has a lovely voice and it really sounds nice with Kelly's singing. Kelly does a Mariah Carey type vocal in this song but she reaches it with no problems showing off her singing talent. I don't think this song is about anyone in particular but it is about love how it protects, how she is intrigued by this person and how impossible it is to escape from them. I like the mystery of this song how she dreams of this someone and how she can only think of them, it could be a friend, parent, or boyfriend maybe the point is that her love is simply deep for all of those close to her, I am sure though that this is about a boyfriend but still a very nice personal song. 7.(LOVE LIVES IN) STRANGE PLACES-A very calm beginning and she whispers the title name and then the music picks up a little, a slow beat but the rhythm gets quicker and the first chorus describes a man and how she feels. A nicely written song, one of those songs you listen to the words but the music is good. A chilled song with music that isn't too loud. A different style of music but this album is all about a lot of different music and it still fits Kelly's voice. She sings really well here with sof
t singing and then her voice being really strong at certain parts. This song is about a man who she describes as being posh but also casual and not someone she would you usually choose but he made her stop and then he told her how love lives in strange places. Mainly the song is about how love can catch you when you don't expect it and you can love someone who you would never think of even liking in a certain way but everything works out. A really nice idea for a song and the music matches the mood of the song another great track. 8.OBSESSION-I like the beginning of this song it's like a dream and very mixed up but it gives a great effect and a nice way to introduce the song. The singing is softer and she sings the same through the first verse while the music still stays the same in the back, it isn't very noticeable. This song is really weird and the song sounds muddled as if it is wrong but everything is right. I don't know if this is the best song, it has good music but even the singing sounds a little bit strange at the chorus. The singing doesn't work with the music and the notes are out of place. The words are good in this song she wants to be everything to 'him' sort of like an illness, a disease, the closest thing to alcohol so she is addictive I am guessing. Her voice ends off the song nicely on a higher note and then fades off, it passes really quickly this song and it is the type of song you could lie back and fall asleep to very calming. A good song for the album but I don't this should ever be a single because I don't think people would like it and it would take a long time to get used to. I like to play this song when I don't really concentrate on the music when I just play the whole album but when I really listen to the music in earphones then I usually skip this song but not always. This song being your favourite depends on your music taste. 9.HEAVEN-Begins with a magical sound and another s
ong more r'n'b, very chilled again but the singing is great and really nice with the music. The backing singers also help the song sound really good. Not a very loud song but a slower rhythm and the singing has a lot of feeling in it. This is another album with a lot of slower songs on it but this is a really good song good for her voice. She is in love in this song and it is her being in heaven because of this because everything is so perfect and she doesn't need to look for pleasure in anything else because she is now in love. Not a favourite song of mine though a bit too much about love and I think this is quite plain I prefer songs like 'Can't Nobody' that are very quick and loud but unfortunately for those songs this album is the wrong one. This album is still excellent though for her solo album and I really like it, the kind I listen to for relaxing and not for a dance I have other albums for that. I don't think this is good enough for a future single because it might just be a bit too slow and she is not as good at the slower songs because they don't show off her excellent vocals. For the first time in my album reviewing history I am not going to go through all of the songs on the album step by step because I feel I will just be repeating myself. This is an album with more of a relaxed mood which must be Kelly's style so there isn't much to say about that kind of music. I can say that this album is worth buying and if you like Kelly's song Sole and Dilemma you will probably like this but you also have to like r'n'b because Stole and Dilemma are the few like this. It has done well in the album charts this album and she has done really well for herself and deserves the success she is getting. The album cover and design is nice, it is kelly looking at herself in a mirror a very flattering picture and the book is nice with the songwords and all nicely presented. The CD is also a nice design.
I think it has a nice appearance and is a very feminine design, all pale colours. A nicely written album with a lot of future singles, one or two songs just too slow for my liking but I love the majority of this album and even Destiny's Child fans should go out and buy this. I am sure that there will be a Destiny's Child album out later on this year but for now we have all of the solo albums to listen to and to see the girls' individual talent and style.
