Advantages: Keeps getting better and better
Disadvantages: introduction goes on to long
Early 90's four ordinary high school students were practising playing music together in a garage to erase the boredom between their skate sessions. they had no idea how the band would evolve. Afi (a fire inside) first appeared on the scene in 92, on dork, a split 7" with fellow high school students loose change (which featured afi future gifted guitarist jade) it wasn't until the bands 3rd album "shut your mouth and open your eyes" that bassist hunter would enlist. And it would be later still that the present afi lineup would include jade on the 4th classic album "black sails in the sunset". Its full of wicked melodies, killer riffs and so energitic its intoxicatingOn september 26 2000 afi released "art of drowning". Their music has roots from punk rock and hardcore, but they are in their own genre - they have a sound unlike any band i've ever listened to. PAST TO PRESENT TIMELINE OF RELEASES 95 Answer that and stay fashionable 96 Very proud of ya 97 Shut your mouth and open your eyes 99 Black sails in the sunset 00 The art of drowning 03 Sing the sorrow SING THE SORROW Sing the sorrow was released march 11 2003. It was co-produced by Jerry finn Rancid, Greenday) and Butch vig (Nirvana, Smashing pumpkins). A number of songs on this album will have you grabbing for your air guitar and prancing around the living room thinking your a rockstar playing these mystical, energitic, heavy as hell riffs. Davey havoc - vocals Jade puget - guitarist Hunter - bassist Adam carson - drums Track list 1 Miseria cantare - the beginning
>2 The leaving song part 2 3 Bleed black 4 Silver and cold 5 Dancing through sunday 6 Girls not grey 7 Death of seasons 8 The great disappointment 9 Paper airplanes 10 This cell 11 The leaving song 12 .......but home is nowhere 13 Now the world 14 SYNTHESTHE SIA Track 1 miseria cantare is the only track on the album thats boring is the introduction to the album chanting "YOU ARE NOW ONE OF US" . Track 5 Dancing through sunday really stands out on this album its awesome, its so energitic, with heavy as hell riffs. This will certainly have you reaching for your air guitar, thier music just feeds your body full of energy making you feel alive. Listen out for the guitar solo its one of the best pieces of music I've ever listened to - this would be on my wish list of what I want to play!. Track 6 your bound to of heard it was the first song from this album aired on radio "Girls not grey". Again another track filled with genious riffs and melodies. 10 years later, the same inner flame that fed those four teenagers making music in their garage has taken AFI (A FIRE INSIDE) to unforseen musical and professional levels. They have given me inspiration to carry on with music I hope this review is helpful.

- 07/06/04 I've got 'Black Sails in the Sunset' and 'the Art of Drowning,' my favourite, but I didn't really like their new sound. I'll wait and see what they do next... |
