Whilst not your stereotypical pop song, it is catchy and it was fresh on the scene with Morrissey's interesting lyrics. The production of this song gives it a very raw feel, which I like. The band are in the starting blocks of their 'career' here and their emotion is there to see. A great opening track. This Charming Man One of the most famous songs they wrote, for good reason too. This track is an energetic song which you can dan...more

The Smiths (1982-1987) are widely seen as the last great British group. Over studio Albums, b-side collections, compilations and one-off singles, they produced an astonishing breadth of work with a consistently high standard of songwriting. British music in the eighties can be summed up simply as: The Smiths and the rest. The partnership between the poetic and skilled Morrissey and the guitar genius Johnny Marr is one of the most important and influential in British music history. Like many people I got into The Smiths long after they'd split but the timeless quality of their songs and originality was unmistakable. This review is of The Smiths' ...  Read the complete review

The Smiths, well what can I say about The Smiths. I wasn't old enough to grow up with The Smiths but the impact they have had on my life I cannot state highly enough. I came across this album at the age of 14, when I was passionate about Oasis. I read one of their influences were these lot and one day on holiday, I saw it for cheap and decided to get it. It changed my life forever, will it change yours? I put it on in the hire car, much to my parents annoyance and it has stayed with me ever since. The music is unique, with Johnny Marr using his jangly guitar to create some incredible riffs. Andy Rourke uses his bass to produce bouncy, melodic basslines that ...  Read the complete review

WHO'S THIS THEN? ---------------------------- It's The Smiths. For those under 25, they were a band from Manchester whose day in the sun existed between 1983 and 1987. Morrissey, their singer, went solo in 1988 and disappeared from the music industry in 1997 only to re-emerge this year with a new solo album entitled You Are The Quarry. Guitarist Johnny Marr has done various session work and played with a few mid-90s indie also-rans but is probably best known for forming Electronic with Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys and Bernard "Barney" Sumner of New Order. They scored success in 1990 with "Getting Away With It" and then a few ...  Read the complete review

Smiths Single is a collection of the Singles that The Smiths released in there time together. Don't think that this is a greatest hits album. This album only came about as The Smith used to be in the habit of releasing some songs that are not on any of their "official albums" When buying Smiths albums is can be confusing as their are so many that share tracks. There only 4 albums recorded by The Smiths, but their record company released a lot of compilmation albums. My advice is to buy the "official" 4 albums the Smiths released - The Smiths Meat Is Murder The Queen Is Dead and, Strangeways here we come. ...  Read the complete review
