Advantages: Live, acoustic, different.

Disadvantages: A bit slow at times, very different to the bands standard hard hitting rock approach.

'Skin and Bones' is a live album released by the Foo Fighters in November 2006 through RCA Records. It's a completely acoustic live album and the music included here was recorded at Pantages Theate, Los Angeles in August 2006. Fifteen tracks feature here, and if you're one for acoustic versions of tracks then this is most definitely an excellent album to listen to. As well as the bands standard four-piece line-up; four extra members feature here providing the bands standard sound with the added extra of harmonica, keyboard, percussion, and violin.

'Skin and Bones' is quite an interesting album in that it lets you hear some of the bands finest tracks from another angle, you get to know the music of the Foo Fighters in a whole different way here and this in itself is a really rather interesting quality about this album. This is not my favourite Foo Fighters album, I do however appreciate hearing light and lovely versions of such tracks as 'Best of You', 'My Hero', and 'Everlong' also. The sound of the harmonica works well here, this provides the music with a calm and relaxing vibe and this is something that is excellent to hear protruding through in the bands sound. The violin also works well on this album I feel, it's a great live release from the band and as the music is just that little bit different to the bands usual sound this adds interest and appeal to the bands music; appreciation can be gained for the Foo Fighters on a whole different level to the usual.

The music is gently put across by the band here, it's not a standard hard and heavy Foo Fighters release and this must really be kept in mind if you're intending to give this album a listen. Do not expect the music to be at all hard hitting here, this is very much an acoustic album and if you think this might put you off then certainly don't give this album a listen.

If you own every Foo Fighters album going and are after something a little bit different from the band then I'd most definitely recommend investing in this 'Skin and Bones' release. It can currently be bought from Amazon for a mere price of £4.98, the music contained here will not be to everyone's taste; that's for sure, if you keep an open mind however and don't expect a standard heavy Foo Fighters affair then you should most definitely appreciate this album from the band. 'Skin and Bones' is not a great album, it's certainly different though and definitely worth a listen if you have a fond love for acoustic music. If you've heard the Foo Fighters 2006 'In Your Honor' album and appreciated the acoustic disc that featured there then most definitely you will find this live album to be of great appeal; if however you heard the bands 'In Your Honor' album and did not like the acoustic disc then this is most certainly an album to avoid.

The bands harsh and heavy guitar sounds have been replaced here with such sweet instrumental accompaniments as violin and harmonica pieces; this is not a hard hitting album of music, it's definitely different though and given that you get 79 minutes of music here and that the current price is just £4.98 then the 'Skin and Bones' acoustic live album most definitely represents excellent value for money.

Summary: Worth a listen if you like acoustic albums/love the Foo Fighters, if not then probably don't bother.
