Advantages: Amazing Songs, Amazing Performances

Disadvantages: Maybe too many 'slow numbers'

Before I start the review I should probably admit that I am a HUGE Foo Fighters fan and love every record they have made, however I will try to be as unbiased as possible in my review!

Skin and Bones was released in 2006 and is a live recording from one of their acoustic concerts in Los Angeles. I know this is likely to put a lot of people off as rock bands going acoustic don't usually work very well but please give this album a shot as, in my opinion, the Foos achieve this a lot more successfully than most other bands could.

Assuming that if you're reading a review of this album then you know about the band and their members, I won't bother with any blurb about them and will get straight onto the album itself.

Razor:
Although by no means my favourite Foo Fighters track, Razor opens up the gig wonderfully - it is a mellow, laid back song which eases the crowd into the concert and gives Dave Grohl the opportunity to warm up his vocal chords. Towards the end Grohl starts to display his guitar skills as he speeds things up and really gets the crowd going!

Over and Out:
Another mellow number, this one seems like it was made for the Foo's acoustic set.

Walking After You:
A beautifully sung love song. As the title suggests, the track is about someone declaring their love for someone else and the chorus states "If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you" .

Marigold:
This is the 1st of the more uptempo songs on the album. Beautifully sung and perfectly performed by the band - Marigold was originally written by Dave Grohl in his early Nirvana days and when Kurt Cobain first heard it he liked it so much that the band used it as a B-side on the Heart Shaped Box single.

My Hero:
I LOVE THIS SONG!! I loved the loud version on The Colour and the Shape (in my opinion, their greatest album),and I love this acoustic version - it is absolutely guaranteed to get the crowd going wild at any gig. The acoustic version shows just how wonderfully gravelly and perfect for rock Grohl's voice is. It has long been rumoured that My Hero was written about Kurt Cobain although Dave Grohl still denies this.

Next Year/Another Round/Big Me:
3 more songs perfectly made for these acoustic sets. Perfect vocals, and performed amazingly (as always) by the vand!

Cold Day In The Sun:
Another uptempo song, although not 'rock', this is a really uplifting song. It's hard to pinpoint why, but you could easily picture this song being played at a party in the 70's!

Skin And Bones:
The title track. This laidback song rises and falls in both tempo and volume which is a wonderful effect if, like me, you are listening through headphones.

February Stars:
Possibly the slowest song on the album, this again demonstrates the lead singers vocal range.

Times Like These:
One of my favourite FF tracks, this is a rock song which shouldn't work as a mellow, acoustic track. But it does, and how!

Friend of a Friend:
A beautiful story within a song. If you listen through headphone and close your eyes it almost sounds as though you're eavesdropping on the singer having a personal moment and performing only for himself. Just beautiful.

Best Of You:
One of their most famous songs from recent times. Amazing performance, from an amazing band, of an amazing song. Not quite as 'rocky' as the album version, but still very, VERY good. The hairs on my arm stand up when he screams the opening line!

Everlong:
Perfect, perfect, perfect! 6:36 of musical perfection! Many peoples favourite Foos track and this performance does not disappoint. Considering you can now pick up this CD for around £5 it is worth buying just for this and Best Of You!

Overall, although this is not my favourite Foo Fighters album this is still an amazing performance and considering how cheap it now is I would have no hesitations recommending it to anyone - Rock fans, Acoustic fans, young/old fans, Foo veterans or even people who have never heard of them. 9/10.

Summary: A top album for everyone.
