After Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror film Alien made a splash in creating an iconic horror film and introduced the combination of a nasty murderous alien against a tough, bust-your-balls-out female lead in Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, it took a while for the film to reach the laudits it deserved, and become a viable franchise film.
